Is it possible to convert a 350 gas TBI to Vortec?

If your dead set on the TBI, why not just buy a Vortec junkyard engine, and the intake to convert it to TBI. Then you will get Vortec power, TBI injection.

I agree with Martin. If you have like 3.08s or 3.23s right now (which is likely) 4.10s will be the best possible bang for your buck to pick up performance.

TBI with vortec heads, intake, and a properly sized cam is as far as I would take any TBI injected motor. Yes it will need to be tuned. Theyve gotten hard to get tuned properly. Some say the mail order guys are good, some say differently. The easiest thing to do would be call a TBI tuner and ask them for a mild build to follow that they already have the tune down pat for.

In a 1989 half ton Suburban, the base gears were 3.42, the optional gears were 3.73. 4.10's were only available in a 3/4 ton Suburban.

Just guessing

Guessing is never a good idea. It's easy enough to know, and it makes the discussion much more relevant. You can use the wheel-spinning method, or you can pull the differential cover, or you can use your RPO sheet (if you still have one and you have some reason to think the axles haven't ever been changed out).

Nailed it, Martin. That's what I was gonna say.
