Found an 89 2500 2wd burb with 350 and three speed auto. Everything I have read says that the 350's came with a 4-speed and the 454 came with the 3spd auto...
can't tell. no sticker under hood.
anyway, owner says the engine blew after driving with a collapsed lifter.

truck has great doors, no rust, good hood and front bumper, new radiator, new exhaust and alternator.
I can get it for 200.
I assume it is a 14sf rear cause of the 350.
should i buy and part it out?

thanks

if youve got room for it, $200 for a solid burb seems worth it to me. im a little confused as to the engine situation, is it the current engine thats blown? or is the 350 a replacement engine for one that blew earlier? even if the current engine is blown you can throw a runner in from the junkyard and resell the beasty for a quick couple hundred at least. maybe a few grand if its clean enough.

It has the TH400 because it is a 3/4 ton, not because it has a SBC. The 4-speed 700R4 was in the half ton trucks.

As for the axle, I cant remember which is which, but the 3/4 ton has the lighter duty 14b. The 3/4T 14b has a flat flange that the wheel mounts to, the 1T 14b has a hub that sticks out. Which one is SF and which is FF, I dont know. Once again the axle was based off the 3/4T rating, not the engine size.

Edit: BTW a few months back I got a 1990 R2500 Burb for $200. Mine had a SM465 trans but otherwise same setup as yours. Must be a trend!

What through me was the fact that I looked up the sales brochures for that year and it said that the 3 spd auto came with the 454 and the 350 only came with the 4 spd maual. either way, it is definitely the semi-float rear. i went back over there at lunch and decided against it since i have my heart set on a 14ff. the only parts i could use off this truck are the front doors and radiator and I would be stuck with the rest.
Thanks

You might be correct in the 4-spd manual trans thing. I assumed that you were referencing the 4-spd auto as it is rare to find a Burb witha factory stick. If I was closer to NC I'd get it. But I'm a sucker for Burbs. :D

stuck with the rest? you'd have a 2wd steering box for crossover, longer rear springs, various engine accessories. buy it, keep spares for yourself and scrap the rest. you'll be money ahead.

I was thinking the 454 and diesels always had the FF rear.

Doesn't matter in this case, but there were bunches of 3/4 Burbs built with the FF.

Bought it, bought it

I will be placing a parts list in the for sale forum. Anyone need parts until then let me know.
