At work there is a burnt up Silverado 1500 that has been sitting there for ages. As far as I could tell, just the interior and bed were burnt. You guys think it may be worth it if I can pick it up cheap? If I do, I'll toss a carburetor on until I can afford to do the fuel injection swap.

Tomorrow I'm going to take a look.

the carb swap will cost you 800.00 alone in parts..thats before the carb and dizzy

intake,
coil pack control
carb
dist

that could become pricy qucik, but the whole motor and harness can be had cheap for those years and they are already shoping up in junkyards like crazy for wrecks

also keep in mind you can find those trucks running for 1800-2500 for a used work truck, if you find a white one, just pick up used sheet metal with no dents and your good to go!

Good idea, I forgot that I would need more then a manifold to swap to a carb. Maybe saving the engine until I can do it correctly would be the better idea.

500-1000 gets you a whole motor, wiring everything..not bad but it all depends on how cheap the truck is for you.

Yeah a carb conversion isn't a half day bolt on clicky

I'd rather do the repair or replace of the fuel injection system as well . Its a relatively "new" truck , keep it that way .

Well I found the owner, he said he would sell it to me for 200 bucks and the engine was perfectly fine, turns out it was a 4.3L v6 :doah: Figures knowing my luck.

Thanks for the link Paul, a good read.

I would run away from it. If it burnt up, it's probably a mess, regardless if you can see it or not. Things like that usually become problematic vehicles, if someone can actually get them road worthy in the first place.

Well hell , buy it anyway . A 4.3 would be a good buggy motor , and someone would take it . You can get a intake for a 4.3 , and a dizzy ( its a short smallblock and there were 229's with carbs in the ealry 80's ) .

If you have 200 bucks , you can make it back from parting it , and put money in your rig .

Springs are soft and long .
Rear end is probably good .
2wd steering box with proper fittings for an 80's rig .
Overdrive rear wheel drive tranny that will fit in a musclecar .

Goldmine if parted :D

Matt might be interested in a 4.3L. He was talking about one for a buggy build when he is done with his truggy.

Harley

Post the tranny on craigslist , a Chevelle or Camaro guy will be all over it ( not me , I am thinking th350 and future GVO ) .
