Hey Guys,
I just bought this motor for my 73 Blazer and I was considering swapping the cam before I put it in:

http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256305

The current cam specs are .383 in. intake lift and .401 in. exhaust lift. The open duration is 194 degrees intake and 202 degrees exhaust at .050 in. with a 112 degree lobe separation.

I am running TBI right now and will be swapping that over so I was thinking of running this cam (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/cca-12-249-4/overview/) with specs of .434 intake lift, .444 exhaust lift, 206 int/212 exh duration at .050 with 112 lsa.

I know that cam will make more power and they run well with the stock TBI but I want to know if it will make enough extra power (and good power down low) that it would be worth my time to swap it out.

Let me know what you guys think.

John

I don't know about running it with TBI, but it should wake it up a noticeable amount, I really liked the Vortecs I put on my old 350, big difference over the 883's that were on it...duration is still in the truck friendly range providing good low rpm torque.

Supposedly its a TBI friendly cam so hopefully it will work well. It seems like a pretty big change over what is in there now so its probably worth pulling the motor apart I suppose. I just didn't want to do it for a minimal (10-15hp) gain.

Cam swaps on these engines don't take long, if the engine is out of the truck, it's that much easier. Might as well.

Well I guess that answers that, I'll go ahead and swap it out.

I can't wait to get this motor in and actually be able to drive up the mountains at a normal pace!

Unfortunately I decided against swapping the cam. After talking to a couple TBI guys that Cam would push me into the throttle body mods/tune arena and I didn't want to deal with that.
