Is lightforce all that great?

So, my unit (im active duty army) runs "lightforce 170 strykers" on most of our HMMWV's. I had heard from people, some of which are on this site that LIGHTFORCE is as good as it gets. Having seen some brand new ones up close today, im not all that impressed. The housings are plastic, the cover is plastic, and so is the mount. Hell, the only metal pieces were the bolts.

We have some KC daylighters on our LandRovers, and they seem much more durable.

I would run 6 or so of them on my k5, which would probably get smacked around from tree limbs.

So, are lightforce really all they are cracked up to be? And, why do you say so, do you have personal experience?

I have no experience with them but at the off road expo the demo guy had an axe handle he was hitting it with, they alos have a video of them hitting it with a bat I believe. Their HIDs are bad ass but PRIIIICCCYY. My friend gets the Lazar Stars Dominators HID's for $250 brand new. I'm picked up the first one, need three more. Two flood, two spot.

Click to see larger image in the link. My friends bud makes light kits for off road dirt bikes using these lights. he machines a bad ass ring to protect the lights. I'm having him machine me 4 of them. I would make them but their cnc machined and can't be done on conventional machines which is all I have access to. Well they could be done but it would be a total pain in the ass, easier to have then cnc machined.

There are plenty of teams that run Lightforces in Baja...and that says an awful lot to me.

I have seen a lightforce light take a hit from 4" diameter branch at about 35 mph. knocked it down thats it.

That plastic they are made of is tough.
