my friend is convinced the th350 has 4 gears and i say it has 3. i can even tell him the ratios of the gears, but he swears i'm leaving 4th out. on a longshot, is it possible that there are two versions of the th350? that just sounds stupid. i've never seen any th350 specs that list anything past 3rd. this is a matter of life and death. studies show that inaccurate car talk is the leading cause of tire-iron related injuries between friends. (disclaimer: no actual study showed that. no animals were harmed in the typing of this post. but one was eaten)

No your friend is an idiot. th350's are 3spd auto,s hands down no exceptions.

your friend, is in fact a moron. IF he were dealing with a TH350. he's not dealing with a TH350, he's dealing with a TH350C, which is a TH350 with a locking torque converter. he is feeling 4 "gears"...

1st gear > shift to 2nd
2nd gear > shift to 3rd
3rd gear > lock converter

the action of the converter locking feels as if it were another shift, and also reduces the slippage in the torque converter. the reduction of slip in the torque conveter creates a drop in RPM to maintain the same speed. the "shift" and the RPM drop leads you to believe that the trans has just shifted a 3rd time, when in fact, you are still in 3rd gear.

yeah, lockup converters are great for highway cruising. i don't think that's his confusion, though. his old camaro had a 3-speed auto, but not a th350. and none of the 3 vehicles he currently owns have one. so, i don't know what he's basing this on. he tries to convince me my k5 has a th350. pan shape is all wrong, it freaking says "automatic overdrive" on the dash, and my stock 82 350 can easily holds 90+ on the highway at reasonable rpms as long as i want it to. i doubt it could with a high gear of 1:1. thankfully, most of our automotive discussions are less idiotic than arguing about a tranny neither of us has. ha.

In accordance with the forum rules... your friend is not a moron. It is my duty, however, to point out, that his truck is.

I should also note, that his transmission .. is ugly.

probably thinkin that the lock-up torque convertor is another gear, cause sometimes it feels like another one when it locks up,,,i would say,,,half a gear,,,but still,,,a 3 speed.

yah usually number of gears= foreward gears. Th350=3 gears. th350c= 3 gears and a lockup torque converter.

reverse is a gear i guess, i have dumba$$ friends like that, that would argue that its a 4 speed tranny 3 foreward 1 reverse, but they just need to be smacked. :rotfl:

nah R is just for backing outta parking spots, front wheel drive dounuts, and for the backwards rolling 5,000 rpm neutral drops. :rotfl:
