I was dumb and let my friend use my 91 with a 350. hes not doing good so i tried to help.

going about 65 for a hour. temp gauge was pegged. pulls over, coolant in the bottle is boiling.

tow it home. all fixed now, or so i thought. now when i start it, i get a big puff of white smoke.

so what do you say??

thanks

to think of it, i dont have oil and coolant mixing.

That's no guarantee that your head gasket isn't leaking.

If the head gasket is leaking you will probably notice the engine running hotter than normal, you will lose coolant and the cooling system may have lots of extra pressure.

The coolant may be leaking into the cylinders and being burned.

A bad head gasket can cause coolant to go into the oil, oil into the coolant, or coolant into the cylinders. But it doesn't always do all of these. It depends on what part of the head gasket is leaking.

This sucks. I'm thinkin mine may have done the same thing this weekend.

Replacing head gaskets is not a bad thing. Not too hard to do.. plus it is a good reason to install in a nice cam and intake.:thumb:

Sorry about your luck , next time don't let friends use your stuff , its ALMOST as bad as letting family use your stuff .

I've only ever let two people drive my trucks , jason4x4 and 4xcrazy .

Unless the push rob galley is cracked, or the heads are worped, or the block warped...

If it was pegged for that long, i'd guess the block deck is now warped...

I think you can check it by started the truck cold, with the radiator cap off and rev the motor up and see if it spits water out of the radiator. Thats what my wifes monte would do when it had a blown head gasket.

If it does it means gasses are getting into your cooling system, (blown head gasket)

You won't always see the popular oil/water mix with a blown head gasket, it depends where it blows.

Good luck

Do a compression check. If 2 cylinders next to each other read the same, gaskets probably blown between them.

agreed. if you allow a full weekend for little problems that always pop up, it should be ample time. personally, i'd take a lot longer and do all sorts of other fun stuff while i was in there.
