the limited slip has clutch plates and springs that can and will slip under harsh conditions. I'm not positive about how the gov lock works but I know its a mechanical lock instead of clutches

Yeah i know, i mean by looking at the axle , how can i which one i have! Btw thank u for reply!

you can see the springs in a limited slip. most look like a normal open diff. but have the clutches n spings inplace of the spider gears

Not a Gov-Lock in that picture, in fact it appears it might be a Detroit inside that open carrier. It's really hard to see with the glare from the flash, but I think I see Detroit springs through the window.

You can tell it's a 4 post cross at the very least...which eliminates the Gov-Lock as a possibilty. The Gov-Lock carrier has a three post cross.

that part I didnt know, thanks:thumb:

There are other ways to tell, but that one is the easiest. 3 bolts between the posts on the cross is the standard carrier which may be open, or contain a Detroit, or a Lock Right.

4 bolts between the posts, it's a Gov-Lock and nothing else.

if the carrier has windows and you see gears = open. if you see spring = detroit locker.

and fyi detroit locker is the best option for factory bolt in.

and by looking at the carrier in the pics its 4.56 -up gears. so must be from a military truck 1 ton = great score.

and here is a write up on the 14ff carriers with pics. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151608
