Is the all gear 205 case a rough choice for the Th350?

Is the all gear np205 tcase a good combo with the th350? Except for the odd 80 np205 syncro GM discontinued the np205-th350 combo after 72. Perhaps the all gear tcase was rough on the th350? I'm not sure why GM would not offer this option after 72 on the k5.

They were pushing the full time NP203 as the great new thing back then. Its not like a chain driven transfer case has any give or softens the drivetrain somehow. The 1.98 low range is more of the issue in my mind, with a SM465 you get the awesome 6.55 1st gear to make up for it. I will always love the NP205 for just being strong as hell, you can make up gearing other ways if it becomes a limitation.

I thought perhaps that the np203 chain drive is easier on the tranny. In 78 GM also added the torque bar from the tcase to tranny. In 72 the tcase support brace was mounted to the frame.

Loved mine in my 79.
I have a 465 with a 205 that came with the frame I bought to replace my damaged unit after my wreck.

Thinking hard on going with 203/205 doubler for my burb.

The oddball synchro 205 didn’t show up until 1982 in K-30’s only by that time - all 1980 205’s were standard issue.

Those T-case side to frame mount torque brackets were used until 1975; nothing was used from 76~77 and in 1978 those heavy 203’s were somewhat giving a “tail wagging the dog effect” so the T-case to bell housing side bars in conjunction with the thick torque converter lower cover to motor mount bars ( also thicker case necks ) were used - the 465/205 rods came to be used a few years later as well.
