Is the tranny from an 89 k-5 the same as one from a 90 k-5?

Friend of mine and I are going to look at a 1990 k-5 blazer this saturday. The owner is a friend of a friend and is moving next week and needs to sell the truck asap because he cant take it with him. He said he'll sell it to my buddy for $350. It burns oil and has some trans issues. Well Im swaping out the 700r4 in my 89 k-5 and i would sell it to my buddy to use in this 90 k5. I'm assuming its a direct swap, but I thought I would check with you guys.

Unless one is a cable speedo and one is electrical, it is a direct swap. IIRC the pre 89 ones are weaker than the later ones. It might be as early as 86 though, I don't remember exactly.

It's the same trans (assuming they both have the np241 t-case) and the speedo goes into the t-case not the trans.

alright, thanks guys. I'll report back if he buys it. If not its getting scrapped :(

I hope they're the same. I'm about to put an '89 700R4 in my '91. *crosses fingers*

Well, we looked at it. It was a complete piece of junk, totally rotted out. The frame was in terrible shape, lots of scale and I found at least one crack in it. So its gettin crushed next week
