I was wondering is there a valve that is made so that i can switch it and thus bypass my mufflers but when i need to go through the mufflers i can switch it and have it flow through them.
do they make these? if so where can i get one

Closest thing I've seen is headers with caps. They have a "y" at the end, one leg goes to the muffler and the other can be opened to bypass the exhaust system. Not too sure of their availability for our rigs.

It sure would be neat if you get something that was cable operated. That would be fun at the stoplight next to the riced out mustangs, uncap the headers and blast off

JC Whitney sells one that is cable operated and Iv seen some in street rod mags that are electric.

Yeah, try JC Whitney. I think that they are cast iron. Not sure what diameters they come in. I would be skeptical of them actually sealing when closed, especially after the heat and/or salt start the corrosion process. I suppose you would want to use that anti-seize they put on the manifold outlet bolts on the little flapper valve.

ill check that out, i wonder if there is a manual one?
this is something im interested in.
mayve have a set of pipes that go next to the muffler to bypass to.

this has been an idea ive been toying around with.
ill be discussing with my dad, see what he thinks.
i think i would be awesome tho, im goin to check it out more today

Flow Tech make a muffler that passes in an "S" shape, but there is a panel on the back with three wing nuts. Remove them and the flow is straight through.

You could also have an exhaust shop install custom "Y" pieces with a removable cap on one branch that is held on with wing nuts.

That looks like the same one in JC Whitney. Too bad it is only for 2" o.d. pipe.

The valve you're looking for is an Exhaust Dump. They are very common on the drag strip, and you should be able to get one for your K5 from a speed shop. Or, go to the drag races one night, and start asking around.

Thomas.

my bro had one on his old race camaro. open up in the country and close it in town. It was from jc whitney

Its actually called a cutout. A dump is when there is a short turn down right after the muffler and under the car.
