because i have fixed numerous lines and fittings and my 79 jimmy is still leaking.

Yeah, the shaft seal,,, put about a capful of brake fluid in there, give it a few days of running and see if it stops... This BTW is only a temporary fix, mine lasted about 8 months then it needed repaired.

Ive never owned an old chevy that didnt leak from the power steering gear till a couple weeks ago when I put a brand new one on my 85.

The power steering gear is the most common leak spot I have seen on these old trucks.

Honestly, in 10+ years of owning a couple K-series trucks, leaks there haven't really been an issues (assuming they aren't 20+ year old seals)

i fixed the hoses on mine. then the pump leaked. i fixed that. then the box leaked. i replaced the box. then the pump started leaking from between the resivoir and the pump. its been that way for a while. there is always a drip on it, but its not really ever low.

moral of the story, its going to leak.

Most "common" P/S leak on my Gm cars & trucks has been the bottom of the pump "can, they ALWAYS rust out at bottom!..nearly every chevy I've owned had a hole rust thru that resiviour....either that,or some moron punctured the side of it with a pry bar, trying to tighten the P/S belt...(which made finding a "good used one" at boneyards a real chore!).--many of my vehicles had that "can" brazed up,or patched with epoxy!..........................................I've had a few steering boxes leak some, but not enough to justify replacing them or trying to install seals...only once did I install a new pitman shaft seal and actually have it NOT leak again!...I opted to put a good used box on from a boneyard donor if mine had issues with leaks--I figured if it leaked, chances were good it was run low on fluid ,and internals might have suffered,so I just buy one that looks dry for 50-100 bucks used...
