Is there a Dana 70HD Disc Brake Conversion?

Right, that's how I positioned mine. I was just wondering if the new srw hub would place the rotor out far enough that the caliper bracket wont reach the new flange (with it placed at the outer most position on the tube).

I dont think that will be a problem.. The DRW housing tube is the same diameter all the way up to within a 1/4" of the hub.. With the 14ff set-up, the acking plate flange is a inch or more away from the end of the hub. So with the D70 tueb running all the wa to the back of the hub I can place my new flange and disc bracket closer to the hub than a normal 14ff housing would be able to...

In this pic, you can see how close the end of my axle tube gets to the hub:

And in this pic(sorry, I robbed it off ebay.. couldn't find a similar one on here), you can see how far away from the hub the brake flange is:

I gotcha, I didn't realize the 14 bolt set up offset that far inward. :thumb:

Heres a couple of pictures of a van 14bolt with D-60 calipers, brackets and rotors with a weld on flange.I put this together in 01 and have not used it yet!

Would be the same set-up for use on a D-70 DRW but spaced differently from the factory flange before welding.I left the old flange on mine, its not hurting anything.I made 4 round spacers exactly the same size and clamped the new flange to the old when I welded it on so its straight.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about on the bracket for the D70HD in order to mount the D60 caliper mount.

Anyone care to make some of these now?

Nice looking set up MEK5. :thumb: Got any more pics of the whole axle?

Sorry I dont, that thing has been sitting on jackstands in my shed for along time and has everything piled on it.:( I need to organize some stuff I quess!

The flange is not hard to make, basically a 1/2" thick ring with a id that matches the housing tube dia. where it will be located and an od and bolt circle of a D-60 front spindle(GM/Dodge).

Too funny, look at the date on my pics. Mine had been sitting on my work bench like that for years until 2 months ago (I'm close to install it finally). :D

Guess Im not the only one with those long term projects:laugh:

I have a mint M1008 frame that I shortened for a Blazer body that I did in 2001 also that has 52/63 springs mocked up with c clamps, every year or so I go out and give them a squirt of oil:rolleyes:

MEK5, what master cylinder set up do you intend to use? I'm inclined to stay with vac assist for simplicity sake but I'm a little worried about needing a bigger m/c to move a lot of fluid.
