So I was wondering what order yall performed your modifactions?
I've done motor and exhaust upgrades, stripped the interior, and added some small odds and ends here and there. what should be my next step?

suspension?
drivetrain?
body protection?
1 tons?

i did what needed tending to first. NO LEAKS! that was my biggest deal then after that all got replaced/fixed, i went to gears and posi. wheels and tires. soon ill be doing exterior looks with functionality behind them. getting your rig safe is paramount i think.

yeah i mean i after i first bought it the wheel studs broke off going down the road but now everything is safe and i dont know where to start i kinda want to axle swap first but will that cause any problems later?

problems, not if you do it right. i just did one and i am really close to doing another. lol. where youre at i would upgrade at least to a 14 bolt rear for peace of mind:rolleyes:

well its going to be a trail rig/town driver, my work is only a 1/16 of a mile away so i dont even drive to save gas and i want it to be trail reliable and still road driveable so you think suspension should be next and bump up to to a 14 bolt as well

You said it was reliable,so how about a good suspension for the tires you plan to run [leafs front and rear or shackle flip + leaf if needed] ,14b with gears for said tires, tires, then front 60,body protecion...etc

I am currently focused on function, over anything else. Right now I am working on winch, axles, suspension, tires, and leak fixes. Then I will focus on the body, then the interior. Luckily my body is pretty straight, but has a lot of rust. I consider it a truck so my first focus is being able to go where I want, without a lot of concern about breaking something.

But there really isn't a right order, just a preference for how you do things, and what you can afford. I buy things as I can afford them, and store them until I can add all related parts at the same time.

Suspension and big tires for sure. Dont wast money into your little axles, but dont stand on the throttle until you are ready to break them. once you get ur suspension set up start shopping for 1-tons. Body protection is nice, but not worth the money until you are ready to push the rig to that limit. IMO,

1) 52's Up Front and shackle flip in rear
2) 14 bolt with locker
3) Bigest meats you can fit on a 16.5 rim ( so theirs no fussin around when u get ur dana 60). Dont be affraid to trim the fenders
4) Dana 60 w/ crossover steering
5) Front locker
6) Everything else

If you start with the motor first and the rest of your drivetrain can't take the new power, then something else will go on strike. For that reason I started with the axles and I am working my way up the system to the motor. I did put tires on it before the tranny was ready, but I haven't beat on it yet, as I a sure the tranny will reject the new traction. I couldn't take the 20 questions a day on why I don't have bigger tires yet and how it looks like a "fat lady on rollerskates".:dunno:

My next step would be suspension (all new springs), rims and tires for the 8 lug axles that would be installed at the same time.

After that is all done, start a new list.

That is how I prioritize whats next. It there is something preventing me from wheeling it, I fix that first. If it's an upgrade I make sure I compile all the parts so that I can do it all at once.

No point in pulling out your front axle because some day you will have a 60.

When I finally decide to upgrade my Blazer I will do it like this. get a set of 3/4 ton axles with 4.56 gears and rebuild them. buy all my suspension and steering components. Buy the wheel and tires. install all of it at the same time. when the wallet recovers buy a new engine and trans.

My preference for a build would be to get the one ton axles first. No more worrying about breaking stockers while trying to save up for your next mods. After that I would throw a detroit locker into the rear.

I wheeled with this set up for 2 years. 1 tons, locked rear, stock suspension, 36" iroks with some fender trimming. Nice and cheap and stout and reliable. I took that thing through some of the tougher trails at moab without any problem. Even wheeled about 90% of pritchett canyon without needing a winch or strap. You can really get on it without worrying about breaking parts.

This would also be a good time to add some body protection.

After that I would step up the suspension and steering (check our website when you get to here :wink1: ) at the same time because they go hand in hand, then lock the front end.

Depending on the type of terrain you wheel gearing could come into play before the suspension and steering but for most people I would do the other upgrades first.

The nice thing about doing it the way I mentioned is that you can get out and wheel some pretty hard terrain while saving up for the more expensive mods and you don't have to worry about spending your savings replacing broken parts.

Well that's my .02 fwiw.

Check out the Govt Surplus site for an CUCV that is nothing more than a pile of parts and win it at auction cheap. Pull that dana60 out and 14 bolt(that most likely has a detroit locker and 4.56grz) and there ya go... one tons and tons of free spare parts

ok so ive started my search for the one tons and wheels tires and springs and while im on my search i've got a small list of things to do
hurculine interior
rewire truck
primer exterior
and trim some fenders

I do somewhere but I don't have time to look for them right now. Do a search of the pics from BB04 and BB05. There should be lots in there. It's a brown and white K5 with a CK5.com sticker on the side.

My other user name is Paxx just so you know who's truck your looking for.

i did motor, then ripped trans out, sent it out, put my new axles in, then got the new trans in, assembled and trouble shot (make sure evreything worked) then did tires...now im guna wheel, break, upgrade, repeat.
