Is this a good air compressor? 80 gal

Been looking for good air compressor new and on craigslist for a few weeks now. Had a few sell by the time I got off work. Bought this early this morning. Champion 80 gal VR5-8 from 1991. Web says it pushes 18.5 cfm @90psi. Looks good, pumped up fast, held air and was quiet. Guy had $950 posted, offerred him 650 cuz it was old than I wanted. Just needs to be wired up now. Anyone have any experience with champion?

My buddy just bought that same compressor but his was 2001 production and let me say that it has PLENTY of air. I was very surprised at how quiet it is as well. My buddy picked his up for 250.00 and I searched and discovered that that compressor is a 2500.00 compressor.

And I thought I got a good deal, damn. How did he con that one. The guy I bought mine from had no idea what it was, he thought it was a single stage, cuz the id tag said single "phase". I was expecting newer, but all its parts are made in usa so I felt safe buying it.

That is a very good compressor, Champion. They are quiet, smooth, and last forever. I have the next size up from yours that supplies air for my industrial plant and it's been there for 20+ years with no problems.

Change the oil in it, it probably hasn't been done in forever.

Change the oil in it and inspect the belt. That is about all those champions need. They are Very Good compressors. My father used one in his upholstery shop for years (more then 25) and it never gave him a problem.

Thought it was a good one, glad I waited and didn't buy a single stage from home depot. Bought a service kit, oil , air filter, oil filter.

We had three Champions at a print co I used to work at in Michigan. They are beasts if you keep the oil n belts changed. Nice buy!
