well i came across a 396/Th400 for $400 today. Its from a 72 3/4ton. I have an 87 Jimmy with a 700R4, what would i need to swap it in? Is this a good deal? ohh and the engine and tranny are being sold by a diesel mechanic at the dealership i work at, so im sure its runnin fine. anyone have any suggestions on other info i should get or how much of a hassle it would be? thanks
jimmy

400 = 32 spline, probably long shaft as well. 700 = 27 spline. Different output shaft(most likely) and a different input for the t-case. Would be better to use current setup unless you want to start drag racing as well. (big blocks are cool, but it a little extra heat/weight/breakage type torque on the trail.) Yes, it is a good deal, even if it is just a solid rebuildable core.

$400 is a great deal for a 396 and TH400, whether its right for your application or not is up to you. I'd just get a NP205 t-case to bolt to the TH400 if you went that route.

yep, good deal, big blocks are cool lol, just expensive as all hell to build up, but imho, its worth every penny.

It's a terrible deal.......please PM me with the guy's phone number immediately.

$400 ???????

Four hundred bucks for a running 396 AND a TH400???---thats a super deal!!!

Thats like sex with Shania for free!!!-:D -I'd jump on that deal before somebody else hears about it...the 396 is not the "best" big block GM made, but its no slug either, better than a 366!!...I wish deals like that would fall in my lap,I could sell that combo here for a grand easy if it ran decent...most boneyards here will get at LEAST 500 bucks just for a rebuldable core, big blocks are getting scarce around here, especially for cheap money...

ask me what I payed for a complete ls6 factory bore 454...then I almost sold it for what I payed:blush: , once I was informed what I had I decided not to sell:D

oh and that price is killer, well it is atleast a deal, I have picked up a few 454's for 200 bucks, one was complete.. I also got my last 396 and t-400 core for 450.00.

the set up will bolt in, you will need a new t-case adapter, and you will need to move the tranny crossmember just a couple inches.

then....smile...listin to the rumble....fell a little nauty about it...then...flog the pee out of her and your drivetrain!
