Is this a good deal for a 79 burb?

I've been out of the 4x4 game for a bit, pursuing life.

I found a 79 burb. 4" rancho lift, 33s (yeah I know they're small), crate 350 with 4k miles, rebuilt auto tranny (not sure if TH350 or TH400, what came stock?), part time tcase (he thinks it's a 205, but I thought the auto would have the 203).

6 lug axles w/ Warn hubs. Should be a 10 bolt and a 12 bolt. Open.

Body looks good by the pics, a little rust here and there. He says it rungs strong - it should with the crate 350 and the built auto. BTW he has receipts for both.

He said he'd take 2000 for it.

This ought to get maybe 9 mpg right? I'm thinking of using it for a daily driver. I think it should be reliable with the new engine.

The reason it's for sale is that it was his brother's, and his brother died. He doesn't want to mess with it.

It's about 4 hours from me, so it would be a day trip up there and back.

Like I said, I've been away from the great trucks for a while and looking to get back. I still have a lot of parts from my old truck build, like 1 ton axles with lockers, 465/205, etc. Just not sure that I want to go that route. Would probably just buy and drive it. Lighty wheeling only, esp. with that little 12 bolt under the beast.

Opinions?

$2K is pretty basic for a running 4x4 in decent shape. thats really good for the newer motor and tranny rebuilds.

and a 79 would have a 203 all of them were.

What emmisions equipment is standard on a 79 1/2 ton burb?

My county does a visual inspection and I want to know what I'll need to put back on. I doubt it has anything.

I had a 78 burb and a 79 jimmy. neither of them had emmisions on them, but then again my part of my state doesn't require anything.

These things varied greatly during this era, but IIRC, I think all the 1/2 ton trucks had AIR pumps by this point. If it was a CA truck new, it would have had EGR too.

Chances are that all you'll need to pass a visual on the motor is a properly plumbed AIR pump (don't forget the vacuum line to the backflow check valve....I've failed a few times for little stuff like that!) Most states also test the gas cap and look underneath for cat(s) too...
