Well I've been looking for a welder now and found one for $200:eek1:, but don't really know anything about it so I thought I would ask some you more experienced people in this field. the ad is as follows::laugh:

"Miller ThunderBolt 40-225 V, stick welder excellent condition"

What are stick welders mainly used for, would I be able to use it for stuff like say welding some metal brackets or something?

id use the stick welder for the thick stuff only 3/16 and thicker all the way to 3/4 inch or so. There mainly used for structure welding on buildings. As far as welding brackets, id only use the stick welder if the brackets are thick metal (frame material) other wise it will burn thru quick and create a hole. I think you would be happier with a nice 220v mig, they can do sheetmetal all the way to 3/8 on a single pass and there easier to use.

Well the brackets are going to be pretty thick, but would also want to use it to weld floor boards, so I guess the mig would probably work better on the floor boards and all around use
