Is this a good q-jet?

Thanks for all the info guys! :woot: :thumb:

As for the price, I'm ok with it. It's a running, electric choke carb with cable bracket (~$15+ @ Summit) and bolts. Hopefully, I'll be able to put it on and just do some tuning/jetting. It's got to be WAY BETTER than my chokeless Holley.

carb question

I have heard that the quadrajet is good carb for 4 wheeling. I have 350 crate engine in my blazer with original carb. Looking for upgrade. Can't decide between a rebuilt quadrajet or a new edelbrock. Thought this was a good thread to ask this question.

Thanks Craig

Not a terrible price now days, if I could find them for 5 bucks I'd buy a bunch.

It's a gamble buying used but that's the risk you take.

Make sure if it's shipped to you they support the bottom of the carb so the linkage Doesn't get bent. Been there.

I was under the impression the mid 70s pre emission ones are the best. Then again I think those generally have the choke stove vs the electric choke the later ones have.

What's the number on that Quadrajet?
It is usually best to start with a Quadrajet that is close to you current engine, since they were all calibrated from the factory. Any Quadrajet can be modified to work on any engine, but takes a lot of work that could be avoided.

Quadrajets are great off road carbs due to jet location and fuel bowl.

Cliff Ruggles book is good and easy to understand for basic building. And Cliff is a great source for quality parts.

Not sure on the number, I'll find out and post it.

I doubt I could get lucky enough to find a carb closely matched to my engine, it's no pro mod motor but definitely not stockish.

The number from it will tell the story on how it is set up originally. All of them are different. Since you have mods, you will need to modify the idle circuits and other components. The internal modifications will make it perform best for you. Not hard to do, but several changes may be needed.

Good to know (thanks). I may holler at you for some part guidance once I get the model number info. :thumb:
