hey all, i just installed the new WARN locking hubs i ordered for the truck. i tripple checked the part number application chart to make sure i ordered the ones for this truck, however i ran into a glitch.

the inner gear that meshes with the spindle is wider on the WARN hub than on the original hub, and the problem this creates, is that even though it is fully seated, it covers the groove that the inner snap ring fits into.

at this point i am only running the outter say... 3.5 or 4in diameter ring that fits into the groove in the rotor hub, i am NOT running the inner snap ring that goes on the tip of the spindle.

I would rather be running both snap rings, as it is how the hub was designed to be ran, but like i said, the gear is simply too long and covers the groove the snap ring needs.

is the outter ring enough? am i safe running the hubs like this?

If the diameter is good, just yank on the end of the axle shaft, you 'll likley be able to get enough out to get teh snap ring on...you can always remove the front diff cover and push the axle a little that way...

I think you are confusing the spindle with the axle shaft. If you can't see the snap ring groove just pull the shaft out a little (or push near the u-joint)

You might post a pic ... but I do believe the solution is to pull on the axle shaft, as mentioned, or push it from the U-joint if you can get at it with a big screwdriver or something... the inner snap ring can be made to go on, just takes patience.

Dangerous, no not really. Likely to **** up your hubs? I'd bet on it happening.

As long as the wheel bearing adjuster nuts are tight, there isn't anything dangerous about this that I see. Except the limited possiblity of one wheel kicking into locked out of nowhere(who knows what would happen if that stuff moves around in there). But even then, it would just spin the axleshaft.

At least that is my thought based off of what I gathered from your post.

ill go out and try pushing it in from the U-joint side, but it was a rather signifigant difference, i didnt use a tape measure, but im guessing the gear on the warn hub was at least an 1/8th of an inch wider, maybe 1/4 of an inch, it was very noticeable. ill go give er another try and let yall know. thanks.

best $25 bucks you will ever spend. come on over to the dark side. you'll get to play in all the other forums. I have met many great wheeling partners here.

debating it believe me, when things settle down. i know everyone says, "i dont have the money" but im going back to college this fall, so i really dont right now, probly durring the school year when the apartment is paid for, i dont need to buy furniture, nothing on the truck is broken, and im riding my bike and not paying for gas, ill wind up happily handing over the 25 buckaroo's :D
