I have a 1979 K20 Extended Cab Short bed Chevy. I bought her for $500 on craigslist and all she needed was an engine the PO(Previous Owner) didnt know what was wrong with it he took it wheeling once jumped it and it started making noise so he drove it till it didnt start again. My bf and i rebuilt a 350 4-bolt main out of a 76 and dropped it in. the PPO took good care of it from the looks of things brand new brakes all around new shocks (not the $20 shocks either) clean 90s style interior over head console with 80s style dash. What i am wondering is if the cab itself is custom job that the PPO had done or if its one of those rumored trucks to be shipped to a company in Texas and built to an extended cab. any input or suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

will post pics later once i am able to...

Ok here is a pic i found that is a decent look at the side of it... i will post more pics tomorrow in detail of interior and exterior around cab and bed

That's custom work. They never made an extended cab in that body style.

Been to Alaska once. Awesome place.

Chevy never made it in the factory.. but a conversion company did in fact.

I can not recall if they the name of the company but Im pretty sure we had a thread on here about it.

yea theres a thread on here somewhere about where those trucks came from. i think it said something like they were made for big companies but they were sent to a factory to get the extended part put on

Yea ive looked at some of those previous threads but they are all 80s...my truck is titled in 1979 and it looks different on the top its in-between the boss style and flat style of cab towards the back i am going to take the back seat out to see if it has been a nicely hidden hack job....the PO didnt know anything about vehicles he bought it for $1800 and when i drained the oil pan i filled a 5 gal drain pan of oil and antifreeze...the engine that was in it dropped a valve which was that weird noise he was hearing....how do you not stop driving a vehicle after you start to hear your piston brake apart??? oh yea if it turns out to be an 80s style cab how do i replace the corner peices of said cab to get rid of the rust thats formed?

I can't speak to those exact corners, but there shouldn't be a lot of difference in the cab corners from those years. The primary changes in 81 were to the front clip and the frame horns, although there were some other changes, I believe cab corners should be the same.

I wonder why GM never offered an extended cab in those years. Dodge came out with theirs in about '72 or '74 and Ford started making them in '78 or '79. Neither one was very popular though for some reason. Now I bet they all sell more crew cab and extended cab trucks than they do regular cabs.

I think some of it may be in part to trucks becoming more of family type vehicles. Where as they used to be just work vehicles.

true, even in my little DD s10, I couldn't see sitting in a regular cab, any truck size for that mater.
Nice freaking deal man, I say u owe me sushi. Why? Dunno, but 500 bucks for 3/4 truck with a nice interior...
