Is this the right starter for my 90' Suburban V1500 4x4 350 V8?

The little ones are more reliable, easier to lift, and dont suffer from heat sink as much. I prefer them.

It's amazing what can be gained from a good set of gears...

I have no insight on sbc starters. But on the 6.2/6.5 engines GM eventually switched to using gear-reduction starters, discontinuing the direct-drive starters entirely. I can't even find the AC-Delco MT-27 starters at Autozone anymore. They only stock the newer style. FWIW.

Did they not also switch to the gear-driven/mini-starters on the Vortecs that were still SBC based? In any case, given the choice between the two, cost might be the only reason the older piece might have an advantage, From what I've seen, the mini's will turn just about any engine over, under any conditions, for a long time. I've not had problems with my "old school" parts store starter (even running headers for 10 years), but when it dies I intend to go with a mini-starter.
