I’ve been looking for a set of Dana 60s for my 85 blazer restoration I’m currently doing. And I’m able to pick this up for $2000 rolling chassis. It’s a CUCV m1008 1985 with Dana 60 front and matching rears with 456 gearing. Rear locker. I know prices are crazy but wanted to know everyone’s opinion on anything I should look out for when I go look at it tomorrow or check. Any help or insight would be appreciated thanks

If the axles don’t need brakes and bearings, it’s not an awful deal. Prices vary by region

Rear axle would need a spring perch change due to the springs being closer to the frame on a 1 ton versus a 1/2 or 3/4 ton.

If you can get it all for 2000, and it is in good shape, I'd bite. Just check it out thoroughly and go from there. You could probably make a few hundred or more back by selling the frame after the fact.

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking.

Need is a polite way of saying “buy the hub caps even if you don’t buy the frame”

:haha:

out here in the south west the front axle will sell for 2k + alone, never mind the rare hub caps

Your not far from me and if the deal is right i might buy the frame from you . At 2k for the whole package its not bad at all i think .

Hard to tell from the pics, but is that hydro steering on the front? Here in NorCal, 1500$ is the starting price for an axle, and more if it has a locker.

Rear 14 bolt should have a locker too. If it was a m1028 the front may have one. More than likely its a m1008. If you can sell the other things you don't need, its a good deal.

front only got a light duty posi is service truck .

make sure to verify them as 4.56 gears and locker in the rear . that frame does NOT look military spec . it is a k30 frame but missing a lot of things that would of made it a military .

Front should be Eaton limited slip front locker if its a M1028. M1008 got no locker in front.

The painted front locking hub marks and the hydroboost are hints thats its a CUCV. What things on the frame are missing @sweetk30?

At this point it's impossible to tell if it's civilian frame or not from these pictures. It's an m1008 because of no overloads.
We can't see the riveted plates for the front shackle mounts. No frame braces. I haven't had a single cucv that had a spare tire carrier.

You're right, its missing these.

yes, I would buy that all day long for $2K. The front axle alone can fetch that kinda dough right now.

and missing the external pass side run diesel fuel line and brackets that would of held it . even if it was pulled there would be shadowing of the layout it had . and yes the frame braces missing . also look to see if the front frame horns have the factory riveted in re enforcement plate on the inside face for the front D-ring mounts .

not saying the axles are not mill spec but have seen people swap hubs over and hate to see you get a set of civi axles with 3.73 gears and open rear . and i have never seen a military truck with the hub caps so someone has played with it or swapped stuff around a bit .

front used a " Spicer Trac-lok (limited slip) " unit for the posi . . the heavy duty unit was a power lok but not used by military in these .

look at rear frame right side . looks like load -bias brake valve . i dont recall millitary trucks getting these . and 1tons in this vintage all got hydroboost brakes if i recall correctly . some early years they still ran vac brakes .
