We are looking for a used car or SUV for my wife. We need to choose something reliable. Right now we have decided on either a Isuzu Rodeo, Toyota 4runner, or nissan pathfinder. She also likes VW jettas and passat. I would like to get a SUV so when we buy something else in a few years, I have something else for a project truck:D. I am just wondering if anyone has had good or bad expieriances with the above models.

thanks in advanced.

I prefer the 4runner as well. Plus if you decide to make it a project later down the road there are way more toyota parts availible than nissan.

Toyotas rock! Not as much as old school GMs though.:D

toyota, you will find the others way low on power, especially if you have 4 or 5 people and some luggage...

Everyone in my family has owned a nissan and they are very good vehicles. They will run forever, 200,000 miles isn't anything to them. I have a 2000 Frontier 4x4 and this truck has surprised the crap out of me. Its a strong little truck, I have towed some pretty heavy things with it, things that I know I shouldn't have been towing, but it had no problem. Mom, dad, my brother and sister have all had nissans and have never had to take any of them to she shop for any reason at all. I don't have anything against toyota's, I know they are very well built vehicles also, but I am just telling you about my experience. One good thing also is that aftermarket is really getting into Nissans now. Calmini makes a solid axle swap for xterras and frontiers, using a dana 44. Go to www.4x4parts.com. This is like the ck5 for nissans. Everything nissan there, and they have lots of aftermarket products you can check out. The forums have a lot of members that have done some really nice mods to their trucks. It is a great site. Just like ck5.

Out of those 3 choices I would choose the 4runner but that is just me. Toyotas seem to hold up well and resell well if it so happens that way.

i work on cars/trucks every day at a independent shop. i see less toys than anyother. and the boss buys them cheep and pops in a 3" body lift and 33" tires and completly trashes them till dead. he has not found anyother make yet to hold up to the death driving he does with them.

i say isuzu or nissan xterra. then later on down the road when you turn it into a project truck go to calmini. get you a sas swap or just a small lift. and all the goodies and have some fun.
