It won\'t run well

I've got an 86 K5. Just 2 days ago it started surging if I gave it too much gas and it would die. It ran fine if you feathered the gas pedal but wouldn't go above 30. I replaced all the fuel filters again, checked the lines and it still won't run well. It'll last for about 2 miles before it'll die, then it takes about 10 minutes to get it back running and it'll die in about 2 minutes. Anyone have an idea of whats happening? The fuel pump was installed in may. I'm doubting thats the problem. Something more hidden. Thanks

Re: It won\'t run well

I had a similar problem and it was the distributor cap. It wasn't on properly.

You also might want to check the timing.

Good luck! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well I am not willing to bet here, but I have had this problem with a busted distributor, the springs on the weights broke and the weights would just open too soon.
I wouldn't think it's the float needle stuck because actually it would flood the engine much faster and the only way you can drive it is WOT, I know because it happened to me and that's the way I got home to fix it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
So check your distributor, vaccum lines, and I also wouldn't rule out a clogged cat or EGR.

Choke.
Take the top of the air cleaner off and see if it's opening. After about 5 minute electric choke should be close to full open. If it's not open the engine slowly drounds in fuel. It will smell like gas out of the tail pipe.
