It\'s a dog on the HWY.

My truck suck's with the 307's /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif ( 13 pinion , 40 ring)
What is the lowest ratio offered , factory 10 bolt's
BTW. 350 TBI. NP241. 700R soon to be 33x12.5x15's used for DD , mud , trail ,poss. a little rock crawling
What ratio would you recomend keeping in mind that being a DD with alot of highway milage is a factor
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif
I also will be pulling a small camper in the future

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

with a 700r4 go with 4.10s or 4.56 gears. biggest factory offered was probably 3.73, but some probably came with 4.10 if you ordered them.

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

I would say 4.56 is just about right, and go all the way to 5.13 if you're planning on going with bigger tires.

5.13 x .7 (OD ratio) = 3.59:1
4.56 x .7 = 3.19
Looks like a big number until you factor in the overdrive.

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

you might get a little less mpg but you have the 700r4 so you would be good on the highway and you said you do some towing and the 4:56's would work great for that. you wouldn't get that much less mpg maybe 1-3 mpg less if anything

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

ive got 4.56 on my truck with 33's. i think its perfect. accually helped mileage causs my truck was working too hard to turn the tires in OD with the stock 3.73's. my truck turns about 2500rpm at 70-75, but i usually run about 75-85 at 28-3000 rpms. so if you go 80+ on the freeway for long distances you might consider 4.10s.

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

Speed limit here in Ontario is 90 KPH. or 55 MPH /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
But our roads are crap compared to the interstates south of the border
We also have a lot of large animals to dodge /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif (moose etc.)
So 3.73 and 33" wasn't a good combo?
The RPO. codes say I have 3.08 ratio .
Mabey I will just wait and find heavier diffs. to run a steeper ratio
Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

I'm in the same boat as you= 33's 3.08/3.07 700r4, but I have a 305 and 65 mph in OD equals 18-1900 rpms tops /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif
If I don't use OD I can make it work for now. If you have funds for gears go for it, if not keep it out of OD until 65 mph or so. At least you have a 350, my motor plans are on hold for a bit. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

Re: It\'s a dog on the HWY.

I have a 89 full size GMC Jimmy TBI350 700R4 and 241 t-case with 373 gears and 33/12.50/R15 It cruses down the highway but still does good offroad with the low first gear the tranny has. It also has a 2.5 in lift to make the tires clear all in all its a good DD but I only do light wheeling in it cross a few rivers play a little in the mud climb around on the smaller rocks nothing major I have another truck for treebashing & rock rubbing so I try to be nice to my DD. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crewcab.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif
