Its official, I'm going carborated

Ive thought about it for a good minute now
Think about it a few more?

Probably somebody who knows what they're doing can fix it for less than the parts for your carb swap. You could maybe even throw parts at the TBI (swap ECM, TB, harness, whatever) and come out cheaper. Better yet, put on your thinking cap and figure it out. Do you ever drive in winter?

If only there was some web forum where guys who know all about TBI could help you figure it out....

What are the issues?

This one I assume: https://ck5.com/forums/threads/tbi-map-sensors-and-headaches.328474/

Willing to bet there is a ck5 or gearhead efi member close by to anywhere that could do the diag. Like @Blue85 said, what are the symptoms?

After messing with mine for an eon, I say start with the knock sensor. It has a big effect on timing.

Ok so I had stept out of the forum for a good minute to let my decision marinate in my head.

After alot of thought I decided to check back on here to not only find amazing humor
Seriously I love this forum amd I love all the people here dedicated to sharing info and experience to a newbie like my self

The truck has all original factory parts
So in insted I'm taking some helpful advice and continuing my battle with tbi
I had a sepereat thread I started called tbi map sensors and headaches Wich details my issues from start to now and what I've done to my tbi and asked

It's kind of funny when I hear people talk about all the bad experiences they have had with Carbs. Not ragging, just saying, I know when I had my 77 back in the late 90's I had put an Edelbrock cam, intake, and performer carb on it and I got the one with the electric choke and I never had to do anything to it except if it was fairly cool outside all I had to do was turn on the ignition and hit the throttle once so it would set the choke and turn the key and it would fire up darn near every time unless my finger slipped off they key before it got a good crank or something silly like that. That being said, in this day and age, I doubt I would switch from a carb to an OEM TBI setup when there are far better aftermarket solutions available but I guess if you are on a shoestring budget you do what you have to, especially if it is for a trail oriented rig.

Gonna be interesting running the crew cab with a carb for a couple months while I get the parts together for FI on the 454. I feel like it'll be like going back to open axles. :doah:

I have 2 (I think, 1 for sure) 454/Tbi adapter plates. If my memory is correct, one has the bottom half of the Tbi on it. Let me know if you're in need. Done with my hi-jack.

i think the reasons why i went with carbs (and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future) was because of:

1) Much easier to setup and "simpler" in the short term. (Although if you think about it, once you understand FI, it's actually MUCH simpler than carbs)

2) Lower initial cost-----a new or good remanufactured carb plus fuel pump and associated lines may run $350 -$500. The minimum for a FI system is about $900-$1000. If you want to use a sump system, which would make installation much easier then add about $350. i know you can scrounge at the junkyard, but what if you don't have time or expertise?

3) i never really learned and got comfortable with carbs, so i want to learn that and THEN graduate to fuel injection.

I bought a Holly 670cfm truck avenger carb about six months ago, cost me about $600.00. I'm no longer worried about losing power going up or down a hill because of the carb, but it still gets lousy mileage and it still dies on me randomly. Not sure why. I would be glad to trade for a EFI set up.

.02 here , take ANY carb and subject it to a 2000ft elevation change.

That's all the reason you need to stick with Fuel Injection

I'll let you know, thanks!
