I've been screwed by my dealer!!!

Re: I\'ve been screwed by my dealer!!!

That is true! They can't require you to use their service, if they could they could charge you what ever they wanted!

$300 to change the engine oil and the rear diff lube, ouch! Especially since they charged $180 to just change the rear axle fluid. It probably has a reuseable gasket on the diff cover so you don't have to do anything except take the bolts out, pull the cover and drain the fluid, bolt the cover back on and fill it up.

When it was mentioned to John that we needed to have the service, I said the same thing, that we don't have to go there, we can go anywhere etc... well, one phone call into 1-800-chevy-cares and I learned exactly what chevrolet requires--- the FIRST service, 3000 rear axle service MUST be completed by an AUTHORIZED CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP... you can go to what ever one you want, but that first one HAS to be done with them- after that I can take my truck where ever I please... This may be different with regular check-up, like the 3k LOF's etc.. and may even be different with each company, - Dodge, Ford etc... however thats what I was told- again , with the price of the truck, and the amount of time I'm going to be paying for it, I didn't want a chance to have to make payments and REPAIR bills---

The Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act has a provision in it to keep manufacturers from benefitting from 'Tie In' sales. A manufacturer can only recommend you use their brand(ie AC Delco, Motorcraft, Mopar) to maintain your warranty. However they can apply to the FTC and get a waiver if they show that it will not work properly without their stuff. The manufacturers will say that theirs is the best, but they cannot say that you can only use their stuff, unless they have the waiver.
I have also read that if they do they must provide it for free, if they require you to only use theirs. Saw it in some lube shop training manuals one time, but I don't know how much truth there is to that.
