ok so i bought this k20...for the axles, and various parts (wiring harness, tranny etc)

the body is shot. beyond repair, but the frame is perfect much better/stronger than the k5 frame that ive been workin on.

Now the question. my original plan was to use the 3/4 runnin gear under the k5, with a 51ford truck body, im now thinkin about selling the k5 frame going through the k20's frame and buying a $250 cab and tilt front end out of a junk yard locally (rust free, or from what im remembering it is)

The only thing holding me back in this decision is htat the k5's frame is DONE. all it needs is brake/fuel lines.

In other words id be starting all over again...althought it IS summer and in about a week i would be caught back up again, and i could then purchase this body (chevy) and it would be a bolt on NO making of body mounts.

Opinions?

hers a couple of pictures just to pic whore.:D

alright now its questin time...

a 203 witha part time kits shift pattern would be

L loc, L, N Hloc, H (or somewheres of that pattern)

and on the 14bolts that it came with theyre are 3 numbers. one has 10 41 10
and the other is 11 41 10

they are both 4.10s but one is open and the other gov-lock correct? or can you not tell that from the numbers stamped on the gears...they are stock.

this would be the 51 ford body but with a mini flatbed on it.

i would swap over to the k20 cab set up,

ats all going to be mangled metal after a while, its a means to an endm the time spent to swap bolt on parts will be alot less than fabbing mounts, grinding/hacking/welding

why not put a k20 cab on you k5 frame and doa flat bed, a little less work than the ford cab,

although, you would be a guy on a chevy board with a ford screen name, chevy running gear, a ford truck body on a blazer chasis... you hack!:D

haha, bc the k20s cab is GONE. like holes in teh roof, NO floor or rockes. yes i know hte later can be repaired...but the roof, i can literaly sit in the seat adn look at the sky...
this pic shows the rust im talking about better...

im not sure whta im gonna do, but as of right now. its k20 frame cab and clipfrom yard. and the tranny/case from k5.

the reason for the ford cab is bc of the sticker i wanted. "Built ford tough...with chevy stuff":haha: :haha:

somehow I dont' think a sticker is worth all the trouble of swapping a ford cab on. just slap the k20 cab on, beat on it til you find another cab.

yikes... you've put some serious time/effort into that K5 frame. If I was you I'd just stick with the original plan. If you feel the k5's frame is weak in some areas, add some gussets/tube/boxing/reinforcement until it isn't. ;) I'm not worried about my frame being a K5 frame at all. A couple of hundred feet of tube can work wonders for a frames overall strength.

yeah i know...thats honestly the only thing thats holding me back...i am honestly in love with both the ford body pictured and an 80s chevy truck body.

but i think ive made my decision to clean up the k20frame buy the cab adn clip outof a junkyard and make my own flatbed.

the way im lookin at it...this will be a HELL of alot easier...ive already got everything i need less amotor, and clutch assy.

and by the way, the original plan for this truck was mud ONLY but now im gonna make it street legal and prolly drive it just as muchas my k5 now. so i want/need a decent body.

howz that easier? the k-5 frame is nearly done. It looks like a 70s frame and Im 90% sure that a pickup cab will swap right on without any fab work. The 80s frames are different and require some custom work to put a cab on.

Ding ding ding! You have body mounts in that cross member. It would be sexy in no time!

Well if your not gonna use that K5 frame Ill buy it off you!!

sure...but im not sure how id get it to you...

damn you guys! haha now im TRULY stumped as to what i should do

regardless im going to continue to strip/clean the k20 as when i make my final decision i can sell the one im not going to use.

hmm now im gonna go search waht a k5looks like with a pickup body and flatbed...

I moved my rear axle back about 3" and the front axle foreward about 2". The distance from the back of my cab to the rear of the frame is about the length of a stock front fender, the wheels almost line up with a stock front fender actually... would be an interesting setup.

well i got some work done on it today...pulled the 14 out, cleaned up 1 frame rail and the 14, and got them painted.

wheni had it all apart i decided to see what the 6"lift springs for my blazer would look like on it...i dont think the shackle angle is right..hahaha this is just with the jack liftin on the spring until it started to pick it up off of the jackstands.

well i think im pretty decided on going with the k5 frame k20 runnin gear 465/205 and a chevy body...the more that i think about it i think this is more of a resto than a "mud truck" build. haha for the record my goal with this is to be a street legal truck that i can drive on the weekends and have a reliable playtoy...yeah i know im not sure those 2 words go together really good. haha
