so i have a 79 GMC Jimmy, needs a lot of crap... (1/2 ton)
i just found a 74 chevy 3/4 ton so not only got the better (14b and a d44 right?) got fenders and doors..
all for 500 bucks!!!

is my assumption of doors and fenders fitting correct?
what is the stock gear ratio for a 3/4 ton d44 and 14b?

All of those parts are interchangeable, brake line banjo bolts are different.

Factory 3/4 ton axles are typically 3.73 or 4.10 but there are other options. The only way to know for sure is to pull the cover.

You can count the number of teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear, the same numbers are stamped on the side of the ring gear (you may have to spin the ring gear to see it). It will have a bunch of numbers stamped on it but at the end will be a couple one or two digit numbers telling you the ring and pinion teeth. It will be something like 41 10 (i.e. 41 ring gear teeth divided by 10 pinion teeth, 41/10 is 4.10 which is the ratio).

also does a 74 3/4 ton have a front dana 44 or 60

Dana 60's in Chevy's only came in 1 tons, Dana 44's and GM Corporate 10 bolts came in 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks (the 10 bolt and D44 are very similar). Roughly, '78 and older had Dana 44's and '79 and newer had 10 bolts but there is definitely overlap and you can't go by year alone.

If the axles are original '74, it would be an external hub Dana 44.
