Newbie question: Can I place jack stands on the axle tubes to support the rear of the truck? If not where? If I can't use the axle tubes to support the car, I think my jackstands aren't tall enough for another location.

Tell me your jacking method.... Thank You!

I use the axles tubes. but I usually put my jack where the shock mounts are on the tube.

Go for it... I put them under the axle tubes most of the time. If I'm working on the rear end I put them under the front spring hangers (for the rear springs) since they're curved and my jack stands fit perfect up in there.
If you're stands aren't tall enough you can get some blocks like this...
