Im helping a friend with a 92 wrangler with a 4.0 in it. It is filling the air box with oil. These things dont have a pcv valve. Only a 90 degree plastic tube and a rubber air line to the air box. Ive checked other jeeps and I know this is the correct set up. The only thing I can think of is blow by from bad rings. Im planning on checking the compression in the next few days. But, the thing runs strong. Anyone have any other ideas?

That is really odd, have you pulled the valve cover to check for any obstructions in oil return holes? Maybe its blowing oil because its not returning fast enough?

I cant remember specifics but there was a recall or TSB on the breather hose system for what you have going on. If I recall for the most part the issue can be corrected by making sure all the plastic lines are not plugged or restricted with carbon etc which causes the problem. Im pretty sure the TSB replaces the lines etc and again I believe Napa has or can order the new setup for about $45.

Update

I think I found the problem... I found a vacume hose that was off and put it back on. When I put it back on the jeep started running like crap. The vacume line comes from the port closest the firewall in the valve cover and then to the intake. From there it Ts off and goes to the sensor on the fire wall in the first pic with the green plug.

The oil is flowing from the port on the front (closest to the fan) of the valve cover and in to the air box. I believe this was due to the vacume leak. Im thinking the previous owner unplugged the vacume line due to the bad sensor. Im guessing that the sensor is a MAF sensor. All it has is the one electrical plug and the vacume line.. Am I on the right track?

So the "rebreather" from the valve cover is spitting oil into the airbox? I'm assuming that is your crankcase ventilation. Does the line go right into the box? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I don't see how a rogue vacuum line could cause that.:dunno: If anything maybe just too much oil pressure (maybe a clog). Not sure on this one.

I wouldn't touch the MAF unless it's running weird. No need to fix it if it's not throwing codes or running erradicly (sp?).

It runs very bad if I plug the vac line back in. And I forgot to
Mention this but it is throwing a code. I just don't have any way
To get it to a shop right now because its not insured. I don't know
Much about the system but I was told that the vacume keeps the
Oil from blowing out the rebreather. I was told it basically replaces
The check valve in a pcv valve. I could be wrong but that's what
I have to go on for now.

Makes sense. Not sure it the you can read the codes with a paperclip like our rigs but some shops will read it for free. Call around and see if you can get the code read. Your most likely right about the MAF.

They are supposed to have it insured here in the next few days... Then i can just drive it to the shop. We will see.
