I'm finally ditching the Edelbrock PS for a quad. Is anyone running a Summit quadrajet? I was looking at the universal performance big block carb ( up to 460 c.i.d. and 430 hp). I called the tech line to see how this would do on a stock 454. The only thing I have changed is the intake and installed headers. They really pretty much said they did'nt know,by saying '' my motor should be able to adapt. "So should I go with the universal carb or their stock replacement. It's either the Summit or Jet Performance Stage 1. I want to be able to climb without stumbling.

I have the Jet Big Block Q-jet. I put it on my rig & it ran great out of the box. I did not have to turn a screw on it. It made plenty of power. Idled great.

I went trail riding & it fell on its face. After several suggestions I changed the float. That did the trick.

Here is a thread were I talked about my problem.

The Jet carb has a part throttle mixture adjustment that is in the float bowl. It is between the flat arms. It uses a late model Q-jet body. I don't remember what is supposed to be there but it is not like the ones Doug Roe shows in his book. It is a Jet carb mod thing. In order to fit the early model float I had to do a lot filing on it. I resealed the surface with some shelllac. It fixed me up.

I bought an Q-jet from this company:

It costed around $350 but it was well worth it :)

Used his carb on my 462.. Did TDS this weekend. Not one problem.

He's got my business for a long time. Asked me a ton of questions about gears, cam, tire size weight...etc. The only thing I adjusted was the idle, and that was after I played with the timing.

I have heard bad things about the jet quads the SMI carbs are the way to go
