My truck (GMC Jimmy) 1991, makes a jingling sound when I let off the accelerator and the truck coasts. It is automatic. Hard to describe the noise, jingling is the best I can come up with. Not quite a rattle. Seriously. Could this be my chain in the t case? Does this unit constantly turn, even in 2 wheel drive?

I don't think the chain turns in 2 WD. Check underneath for loose inspection cover bolts on tranny or the 2 support rods that go to the motor mounts. Also look for loose exhaust clamps or hangers. Check for a U joint going bad.
Just a thought.

I don't think the chain turns in 2WD.

The chain isn't driven in 2WD, but the oil circulating through the case because of the rear output spinning could cause the chain to move/make some noise. I'd check all the things GNERGY mentioned anyways, it can't hurt.

My K10 did the same exact thing and it took me a good month to track down the noise...

Come to find out it was the metal dust cover that goes over the pinion shaft seal.
When my d-shaft was spinning it was slinging that metal cover around but I didn't hear it until I let off the throttle. I tacked it in place and took care of it.

Sounds dumb but I took a rubber mallet and went under the truck and started whacking stuff until I narrowed down the location. :)

Many more years ago than seems reasonable, I had a noise in my CJ5 jeep. Kind of a scraping, grinding sound. Could not find it. I used to tie a few castnets in those days, so I knew my way around knots. Being young and immortal, I basically built a sling or hammock under the Jeep. Slid in it, and had my buddy drive slowly across a smooth paved parking lot.
Perfectly safe, plenty of ground clearance, not close to the tires, knew I could trust my friend.
Heard the noise, but was facing the wrong way. Got the Jeep stopped, slid out, turned around and slid back in. Noise was right in front of my nose. Speedometer cable was scrubbing in its sleeve. Took it apart and lubed it. Problem solved.
Told that story for years. Got lots of comments.
About 10 years later, heard about a guy on the news who owned a big diesel dump truck and had a noise of some kind. Don’t know what it sounded like. He climbed under the truck and got a guy who worked for him to drive across the parking lot.
Driver got to the end, stopped and got out to ask him what he found.
Found the guy wrapped really tightly around the driveshaft.

Just saying.
