Wheelin a friends, stock 89 k5 and its jumping out of gear when mildly flexed. It makes a grinding sound but stops when put in park, cut off, and put back in drive it works fine. Dont know exactly what you call it but the yoke coming from the rear of the tcase to driveshaft was recently changed. Any ideas?

Check for bad body mounts and adjust the linkage and make sure the bolt is tight. I would start there.

cant really tell if its the trans or the tcase, we dont have to move the shifter on the tcase to get it to stop so im guessing the trans. there are actually a couple bad body mounts on one side, think that may be the problem? theres also a grinding sound

Since you don't have to move the t-case shifter then it is the trans slipping out of gear and bad body mounts can make that happen.

The shackle can hit the tranny shifter

i was having that problem where i couldnt go in reverse... so if i climbed up a hill id have to shut it off to roll back down. my s10 did the same thing! i just bought a cable floor shifter for it cause it got old... my k5 did the poping out of gear thing i would have to drive and just keep my hand on the shifter holding it in 1st the whole time.

You deffinately want to fix the body mounts. They are probably letting the body flex from the frame. The grinding is probably because it is not going all the way into park.
