I was at the junk yard earlier lookin for a open carrier for my 12b (gov loc is acting up) and had a brain fart and started taking apart a 10b from a surburban. When i pulled the diff cover i found a auburn in it that pretty much looked brand new. I pulled it out and was headed towards the front office to buy it when i noticed it was for a 10b . Went back and found a 12b and pulled the open carrier out of it. I went ahead and got the auburn anyways (might put it in the front diff), but you cant beat an auburn for 35 bucks! Whats the coolest thing anyone has found at a junk yard dirt cheap?

Good shape dashboard (1 little crack), nice instrument bezel, dual electric fans for ~$25.

Also a 6 lug 14sf drum to drum for <$100. They had an old Eaton rear end sitting there too but the truck it was attached to was headed to the crusher and it was raining. Not to mention I had nowhere to put it anyway.

Interesting that you post this thread today. I just got back from the junkyard, we bought a wagoneer dana 44 front axle for my buddys cherokee for $120. I bought 4 seat belt hoops from an izusu amigo that Im goin to try and use as shock hoops on my truck. They also had a 79 c20 longbed stepside (1st one i've ever seen) with a 14bff rear. They want $80 for a rear axle and i would have bought it but I already got one and an extra one.

67-72 GM driver side batt tray for 10$
32spline outputs for a 205 and complete 10b 8 lug conversion for $40

Got a couple of goodies dirt cheap. 1 78/79 HP60 $125, 1 Gm 60 for $40, and two seperate Dodge 60 for roughly $80 each.

I found a pair of underwear on the ground that someone had had an accident in.......I didnt buy it though.....Oh and nerraw117 stuck his boot in it before we noticed it

35 spline Dana 70 powerlok for $30
5 or six 350's with four bolt mains @ $70 each
10 or 15 Auburn units for 10 and 12b axles @ $30 each
Lots of nice dash trim pieces @ $2-5 each

I go pretty regularly and sell what I can't use on Ebay. Pays for a lot of my truck upgrades :wink1:

My ebay id is byronm845 if anyone's interested in looking :D

Never seen any D60 fronts though, I think b454 has the best junkyard of us all so far . . .

I am a scrap recycler by trade, and everday I am at the scrap yard and see things that I cant believe people throw away, yesterday I got a 5" lift off a solid axle toyota that looks almost new (also took the axles) also found 3 sets of 63" chevy springs, and an 8.8 disc rear out of an explorer. last week I got 2 sets of flat top knuckles, got it all for $5 per 100 pounds.

please PM address of this junk yard, sounds like I need to take a road trip!!!

Man, ya'all are lucky. The 'yards around here suck as they don't know what they have half the time and the rest of the time will charge you too much for every little itsy bitsy part. Not to mention they scrap everything older than 10 years old. I had to call a 'yard 2 hours away to find a passenger side seat belt assembly for Big Ugly.

We pulled a tailgate off of a 90's K1500 for my last employers' work truck at one place and they wanted to charge us separately for the tailgate AND the tailgate cables.

yeah yards around here never let you just pick and pull and they dont have ANY trucks really... all scraped

Round here there is one or two yards that have anything and we got to walk out into the yard one day took like an hour and a half to get to the old cars. This place needs to find a scrap yard some of the garbage they had there stuff that is hardly recognizable as a car becasuse of all the stuff growing in and around it. Place charges an arm and a leg too, no random trips just to look around. They know that they probally have it and can tell you well its down that lane, ten isles down somewhere nobody buys that crap anymore.

yards around here are starting to install metal detectors and they check in your toolboxes and stuff so better not bring any parts in or you wont get them out..

also they are all starting to charge too!!! WTF!!!! $1-$4!!!!! per person!!!!

One yard hardly ever gets the "good stuff" anymore. They have a mid 80s 4x4 dually in there now, but the owner thinks it's worth $1500 if not more. He is an a$$....

The other yard is hit and miss. You can find the stuff, but have to be there when the truck goes in the yard. I swear there are people just hanging out waiting for stuff to go in. There was a dump truck that didn't even hit the yard, somebody bought the whole frame/running gear for like $250.....

Anybody want to go there, PM me and make it a road trip!!!!

Here is a pic of it....

I just visited my local Pick N Pull to pick up some stuff. The axle and drivetrain category is lacking at that particular yard, but I did get an XJ steering shaft for $3.98. And it only cost me $1 to get in.

Went to another yard and they charged me $5 for a transfer case tailshaft housing.

Then a local yard charged me $50 for a driveshaft and yoke, and all I needed was the yoke but they wouldn't let me seperate.

So some of the yards around here you can find killer deals at, and some just rip you off for every penny they can get. I didn't have much choice on the yoke and d-shaft since that was the only yard around that seemed to have a yoke that would work with my np208.

There is one yard here around 10 miles away, but I'm scared to try to get anything from them considering a couple years ago this whole damn island was under salt water.

One time at the local pull-a-part, while looking for a jack, i found a trunk full of porn. That was an interesting find.

I've got lots of parts cheap there, hard to pick out my best score but i've made a lot of money fixing peoples cars with cheap parts.

If I play my cards right, I might get an 88 V10 Burb for free. Radiator is shot and the engine will be by the time I get it home, but the price is right.
We have a small pnp sorta place norht of town that is excellent for prices, but most of their older trucks are gone. They've let me have run of the place before, but I dont think its a norm because of insurance. Most yards around here dont deal older GM, so I'm stuck with ebay or old farms with junkers in the feild (buddy of mine got a GMC Cyclone for free just had to dig it outta the mud).
