I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon of posting my find. I have been wanting to go with 4.10's for some time now and determined F' it. I'm gonna go find a 14bff. The junk yard 5 mins from my house has at least a half dozen. I know cuz I opened up 4 and there were a few I didn't bother with.

I pulled a 14bff with 4.10 gears and either locker or posi from a 1986 C20. Which to my understanding will bolt right in, E-brake and all (I have an 87).

Got it for $126 ($15 core I didn't have)
Now I'm either gonna find or buy some 15" 8 lug wheels. Check the brake and replace the seals and toss her in.

I junk yard that charged a core fee? Really? wtf, who takes cores back junk yards. They should just say give us an extra 15.

all of them do around here anyway, major $$ for them. Damn near everything has a core charge

if i recall shock mounts need flipped for 2wd axle to 4wd. but i could be wrong.

and 14ff carrier / gov loc / detroit / spool / arb id thread. http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151608

if mud is in the plans then skip drum brakes and go directly to disk. i did the full reman on my first 14ff and first time playing in mud i checked and full of crap. tossed them and went disk and so happy after that.

and lots of yards here in my area core charing for years now.

Yup, almost everything with a core here. I was surprised to. But a lot of the core charges are like $2 bucks or something stupid.

By flipped do you mean left to right or upside down? Or the fact that on the c20 the shocks were inside the frame and the k5 has them outside?
I just checked and the shock are the same direct, top of shock forward on passenger and top rearward on driver.
I'll do a bit of searching on that part. Thanks for any knowledge and help though.

Edit: Did some research, I think I see what you mean. The tabs hang low and need to be cut and flipped or moved upward. depending on shocks and pinion angle.
I think my best bet may be to get it in the truck and see where exactly everything lines up.
Right now I am having a hard time finding U-bolts extended for 5 in lift blocks and the U-joint 1350. If any one knows were I can track some down, any help would be appreciated.

The shocks will go on fine, I took mine from a 2wd truck, one of the shock tubes, I believe it's the driver side, will be up against the the axle tube alittle, never bothered mine as it's low on the tube anyways.

I eventually tore one up pretty bad wheelin on rocks, so I ended up rebuilding it and moving it up some anyways. :D

Hm, maybe thats why my 14ff shock mounts were so low, could have come from a 2wd.

don't know about your area specifically, but I was able to find a local spring shop (worked mostly on big rigs) that could bend custom U-bolts. I just told them what I needed, and they had them for me to pick up the next day.

I would imagine you could find someplace similar.

5" Lift blocks?!? Holy spring wrap.

Sure you want to run those?

Nope not at all. I bought the truck with the SkyJacker 6" lift. The front springs are stiff and I don't care for blocks, but it was already there.
The plan is to drop the tank, fix the fuel level sending unit and do a shackle flip.
But until then, I'm gonna sport the blocks. I know it's a bit backwards, but the stock 3.08's just aren't cutting it with the 35's and I didn't want to spend money to gear the 10B
