Junking np203, maybe

Yes, if the center dif isn't locking, the front shaft will spin instead of moving the truck. Only takes a minute and will help diagnose.

Not if the linkage is screwed up. The test is to see if its going in high and low, but not locking.

What would a complete swap of an np203 to np205 cost, roughly? $2,000?

I did that swap to a '77 GMC K2500,but I already had the NP-205 and a friend had the required shorter front drive shaft--rear one fit with no mods needed ...I only did it because I was pretty sure it was the chain skipping in the NP-203...they are about as equally rugged as the NP-205,both are cast iron, but the gear driven NP-205 has the advantage--no chain to drive the front shaft,it is all gear driven..

You have my answer in the other thread.
If you want to call me I can walk you through it.
Pm me for a phone number

For the record I have been through more 203 equipped trucks than many and have rebuilt quite a few.
A twin stick could also solve your problem but a single shifter adjusted properly is much easier to use

You know, as much trouble as he is having, I've got a 205 in pretty good shape I would donate for the cause, but then he would have to replace his entire front axle, so probably would not save him much money...........

Let me mess with it and that double shifter may be an answer. Now the issue is that we know the Tcase engages the gears, now the problem is why wont the truck move? The case may be toast,

I guy by me has an NP203 from a 79” K10 for $80 it doesn’t have the part time conversion though.
Would that be something to pick up?
