Called some local junkyards today looking for a good deal on some 56s. Found a pretty good deal bout 1 1/2 hrs away where it's only $20 a piece if you pull them and $50 if they do. It's good deal but it's still 1.5 hrs away so I called another more local place and you won't believe what they want a piece for them:haha::eek1::haha::eek1::haha:and they are USED, NOT NEW. Take the quiz and take a guess how much PER SPRING

one local yard hour from here wanted 120/pair. the local one 10 min from here takes 50/pair generally but i am good in with him and stuff like that is generally "you want it go find it and its yours" type deals

I got my 63"s for free from the scrap yard. going to pick up my 54" ers free next week. I'm good with the owner though. I got my last pair of 52" for $20 from a junkyard.

DING! DING! DING! Somebody guessed it! These crazy idiots wanted $150 a piece for the rear springs out of a 3/4 ton or 1 ton!! I asked him if he was serious and if that was for both, NOPE, just per side:haha:. Then I asked him if they were new since they were that high, and NOPE, they're used:haha:, so then my next logical explanation was that they were made of gold but sadly they weren't:rolleyes:. I started laughing and I don't guess he didn't it was funny cuz he didn't laugh, but he then came back and said he'd let them go for $125 a piece if I got them today, I started laughing uncontrollably at this point. So regained my composure and told him I'd take 4 sets for a total $1000. He got all excited and I told him I didn't get off work til 7 though so I'd probably be there by 730 -8ish. He was like "yeah, yeah, that'll be fine I'll wait around for you. We close at 530 but I'll wait for you." That stupid F**kers probably still waiting:haha::haha::D:D

the rip-off yard by us wanted $1,000.00 each for scout d44's and $2,000 for a D60.:eek1: I was looking for a friend. I let him know that I got a pair of scout d44's for $50.00 and my d60 for free, and he could go f-off. I've been hitting scrapyards since you can just trade metal for metal 90% of the time.

you can get them new for $150 each from a local spring shop here. A friend needed one after bending it in half. I got him a pair for free though....

yeah i look at that car-part.com and some of the crap they have on there is gut busting funny. youll see like a np208 case for like $600 or a 10 bolt axle for 4-500.

did you tell them to have them all pulled for ya? ha ha. but ya know, there's probably some idiot out there that bought them for that.

go buy a whole junk truck for like 300 and you'll have all kinds of spare parts.

I'm sure there has to be or why else would they be trying to sell them that high.

This place is a big junkyard that only pulls their own parts, supposedly, and that guy said he had 4 sets laying around :D. I'm just picturing him draggin all those damn heavy springs up front, thinking he's about to get paid by some dumb schmuck and then realizing he's an idiot when it's 9 o'clock and still nobody's shown up:haha:

No, he probably went home at 2 and closed up. The way those people operate.
Junkyard owners/operators can be some of the weirdest people out there.
Almost 17years ago now, while I was in college, so while our trucks were still very prevalent on the roads and in junkyards, I called the local yard looking for a 6 lug chevy truck rim because I had bent mine, while, ahmmem, off-roading. Guy said, nope, we don't have any. I asked, are you sure, standard steel 6-lug chevy rim. Nope, don't have any. He's the only yard for 90miles where we were at. The place we were renting had a local handyman over, he overheard me griping to my roomate about how it was impossible they couldn't have any, so he goes, here, let me call, "Hey Tazzy, how's it going, Jack here. Bs.bs.bs.bs...hey, so I need a 6 lug chevy truck rim, -short pause- $5, Ok, I'll send my boy up to pick it up, thanks Tazzy".

Yes, that's right, the junkyard owners name was Tazzy. But why, I never understood, to this day, why would he say he didn't have any? When I got up there, he had piles and piles of them, as I expected. He just felt like saying no.

Needed to pick up a 5 lug 12 bolt for a friends 2wd truck. Called several junk yards here in Houston an most wanted $1200 for the axle.:eek1: Finally found one that sold it for $65.:D

it's amazing what some places try to pull. And you know somebody out there has to be buying the overpriced crap or they wouldn't try to sell it for that much

I was at a pick n pull looking for a steering box. Walked through the yard and stopped counting at about 2 dozen. Went inside and asked how much for one? Guy says $175 for the box.

To which I reply, now let's think about this for a moment, You have at least 3 dozen in the yard. Look in your computer there at the last time you sold one. I'll give you $35 cash right now.

He took it.

After the sale was completed, I politely reminded him, not everybody that walks through the door is the "new guy."

I think alot of them start way up high so they can be negotiated down and still end up better off.

Wow! reading some of these stories really make me feel "Man, I love my wrecking yards"

I've gotten several sets of springs for 30 bucks each.....I've pulled them though.

The local places usually want around $50/spring if they pull it, and about $50 for a steering box. The $175 for a steering box mentioned above is pretty crazy considering you can get a reman'd one for that price from Napa, Autozone, etc...

I happened to be at a freinds house one time who was helping another friends of his replace the entire front dana 30 in a nice grand cherokee. Guess what he paid for it- $1000.00 AND, he had to drive to Birmingham Al from Memphis to get it. I about **** my pants. I just shook my head. Still can't believe that.

Ya but I bought one of those sets from you, and it got all s'd out of shape.
You be sellin me defective junk:haha:

Went to a very small local yard today to scope out some 56s and found some on a mid 80s 2wd 3/4ton but they only had 5 leafs in the pack w/ the overload spring:confused:. Every 56 leaf pack I've seen has had 9 or 10 plus overload. What's up? I got my 14bff out of a 2wd 3/4 ton and the partial leaf pack attached to it had 9 leafs. I figured the less leaves will give a better ride and better flex. They're still underneath the truck and I'm gonna pull them tomorrow as I talked the owner down to a acceptable price ($30 a piece), but just wondering about it.

depends on what weight rating the truck had, to determine the amount of leaves in the spring pack.
