Went to pick and pull today..
an hour or two of wrenching yesterday got me a 32 spline 203 and the adapter.
Today i went to another yard and pulled a 454 out of a late 80's dually work truck. Gas and coolant were still in the lines so this big block should be a runner. :thumb: 90 degree weather i was sweating like crazy, got a sunburn too.
Scored the 32 spline 203 (for a doubler) and the COMPLETE 454 for under $300 out the door.... :wink1:
and i can still get core charges back..
guys were asking me if i worked there.. and how much if i pulled an engine for them... lol.

Can anyone get me any information on these head castings? 14081045
All i'm finding is " 78-87...oval...OPEN...454 ".

Well, if you can figure out how to ship this 600lbs to you, and offer me a few hundred dollars.. it could be yours. :wink1:

"it would be cheaper to just install a dana 60 in front" -mudhog
I tell my friends this all the time, but yet they insist on keep building those dang 10 bolts! They are still looking for a $200 dana 60. Good luck. Nice score bro, ill go with ya on your next voyage! :D

Oval port heads

I'm pretty sure they refer to those as "Peanut" heads. Just plain Jane GM BB truck heads. Should do you fine unless you're going to get really radical with the engine.

Most likely i will sell the 454 to pay for other projects.

I need to pull the oil pan and see if its a 2 or 4 bolt main.
The only way that BBC would replace my TPI smallblock would be if it was a 4 bolt main and it got rebuilt with a stroker crank, afr heads and multi port injection. $$$ :wink1:

Ok

Boy! You want alot for your 300 bucks! (AFR heads, stroker crank, fuel injection). If it's in good shape, you can probably get good chunk of change for it, especially if it's a MK IV block that can use a mechanical fuel pump. Chevy and most rebuilders are getting anywhere from 500- 1,000 bucks just for a core charge on those.

haha! i was saying i'd have to rebuild it and those are the goodies i'd want to get before swapping it in my k5.
The th400 looked good, still had gas and coolant in the lines so i'm thinking it should run. i was at both san jose yards. both trucks i pulled parts from had 4x4 case th400's. if i didn't have so many parts laying around i probably would have pulled one of those trannys also.
I sold a pos 2 bolt 454 for $400 so i know this ones worth at least $500. :thumb:

Hey PeteH i saw a 4.10 ratio 8 lug 3/4 ton 10 bolt front axle up at the newark pick and pull.. its under a red suburban in the first row.
Don't know if your planning on going lower gears and 8 lug.. but i figured i'd let ya know.
A few weeks ago we got my buddy a set of axles 14FF/ D44 8 lug.. with 4.10's for $198 out the door for both on half off weekend. :pimp1:

That's phenomenal. The guys at the yards here must know what they are sitting on b/c the bastards want $1200-$1500 EACH for a D60 or a 14Blt and that's if you pull 'em. And I'm not even talking brand new axles! Used ones!!!!

Ryan, are there any other PnP's other than Monterey Rd. and Commercial? Or are there other hunting spots that you prefer? :D
