Down the highway from me there is an older fellow with a little farm, and one beautiful truck.

About 4 or 5 years ago me and my dad were going to go out with our old Cherokee. We were getting gas in town, and this gorgeous white and orange flatbed K20 pulls up to the pump across from us, we start talking to the guy and we find out that its a 79, with a 292 I-6, 4 speed, and 4.56 axles. We talk about this truck for a while, and forget about it. On our way back to highway, we come around a corner there was that same guy and the same white and orange Chevy stuck on an access road to his pasture. We pulled him back to the road. We start talking to this guy about this truck again, I mention that is was quite a good looking truck, White with orange inset, (opposite of normal), West coast mirrors, cab lights, white steel wheels, factory hubcaps, no visible rust, He says it could be mine, and me, being 14, say absolutely. Well turns out he had the title in the glove box, but my dad tells him that we don't need anymore old trucks, and we go on our way.

I had pretty much forgot about this truck, but today I went by his house, and there was this white and orange Chevy sitting next to his house, and it got me thinking about it again. Wonder if I could still take him up on his offer?

Just thought I would share a neat story.

He really seemed like he was serious about it. Very nice old guy too.
Now he drives a 3/4 ton dodge with a 318.

How bad could things go if I just stopped by and asked him?

You need to go and ask. The worst thing he could say is no and if you don't ask you will never know. It would be a shame spending the remainder of your days always wondering.

LT.

he may even GIVE it to you if he remembers that day

If it were me, i'd go over there with some cash, to offer to buy it.

If he wants to give it to you....great. Otherwise, it won't look like you are asking for a handout.

Best of luck!

Think I might give it a try this weekend, He did seem like a nice guy, and it was just an old truck to him.

I have never seen it around town since. Or him for that matter.
Actually, I think he sold the 318 Dodge to his neighbor, its over there every time I go past.
His neighbor has neat old truck too, a 78 or 79 F250 4x4, but its a water/plow truck so rust hasn't been nice to it.

Well I went by his house, no truck, and nobody home.

Darn.

I'll try again later.

I never said to "ask him to give it to him":haha: im saying he MIGHT if the guy remembers that day when he tries buying it:waytogo:

I watched an old guy in southern Indiana GIVE a kid 2 mustangs one day. we were workin on his farm and stopped to talk to him about the job when a kid about 18 or so stopped and asked about a 65 convertible and a 66 coupe the guy had next to the shed. the old guy said " Ill GIVE them to you if you get them off my property in the next hour".. the kid said ok and drove off... we went back to work and he showed up about 20 min later with a big trailer.... the old man said "well I guess ill stand by my offer" and laughed... kid loaded them up with a winch and drove away..... when he was leaving the old man looked at us and said "hell,, I didn't think he was gonna actually come back..." and laughed again...... one of the coolest things ive witnessed. the cars needed full resto's..... but they were FREE :haha:

Well I went by again today, still nobody home.
I had the camera with me again today, so I decided to record some.

I took two videos but I ran out of memory so I deleted stuff, and accidentally deleted the first part. Wasn't really important, just me talking about this messed up weather, 7 inches of snow last week, and now its 60 degrees.

This was quite a lot of effort to accomplish not a whole lot.
But the video should work now.
