Just bought a new gmc sierra! *trip report post 247*

22.2mpg from my house to the beach. Not bad!

Fun times at the beach! Here for one more night. Put the truck in low range for the first time today! Nothing exciting but it was for for me. Probably put 20 miles on it in the sand today. Most I have been off-road in a long time sadly... Couple pics.

Wife and I set up shop in the bed. Picked up some snacks at the safeway deli and layer in the bed. We were dialed in!

Then we ended the night with wine by the fire. Although I'm not letting her talk me into wine again... I'm best off with beer.

Thanks! It was just fun. The entrance to the beach was nasty and had crazy ruts. Every vehicle that wasn't 4x4 got stuck. So it was fun for me to blast through it.

Well with all the beach driving around we did (it's only 95 miles from my house to the beach we went to) my average mpg had dropped all the way down to 16.8 at one point in time. Picked a couple mpg up on the way home.

Sure are putting miles on it in a hurry, glad to see it being used. My 2011 just cross 17k and I have had it 1 year and 9 months.

Thanks Larry! It was a nice relaxing time. And I was so happy with the truck all weekend!

26 has some long hills to suck the fuel on.

I took hwy 26 there and got the 22.2. The way back I took the Washington side. Really pretty drive but a lot less direct. Also puts you out on I5 which is 70mph. The high speed is what kills it. Last weekend I drove up to my mom's house in Kalama Washington. About 50 miles and most at 70mph. That trip was only 18.3 average. Still pretty decent! I should be putting about 750 miles on it memorial day weekend. We'll see how it does with that. I sure do love this truck! It fits me and my life perfectly!

True on the speed. I went to puallup in the yellow xj, doing 70-80 depending on traffic. Averaged 14.8 mpg :doah:

Still looking good!

For mpg refs, my aluminum 6.0 4L70 3.73 285/65r18 bfgs, gets 15.5-16mpgs at 70-75 mph. Down around 65, about 17mpg. Downhill or downwind is much better :)

Thanks! Some day when I'm rich, I really want to play with getting a custom tune on it. I want to play with a "performance" tune and disabling the dod. Most folks are claiming a mpg increase after disabling dod and a good custom tune. The main reason is I want to see if I can get it to stay within a mpg or so and get rid of the dod as lots of people are claiming the dod leads to oil consumption issues and they are having to put a new set of pistons and rings in them.

All LS motors have oil consumption problems that stem from the PCV system. Take a look inside any LS with a few miles on it and you'll find oil in the intake manifold. All the camaro guys are fitting catch cans on the pcv hose to catch the oil vapors before they hit the intake. Its a good idea and I'll be putting one on soon.

Also the automatic transmission guys have the L99 with DOD and they are also reporting better mileage with a quality tune and disabling the DOD. But the consensus is that the handheld tuners suck. They help but Its much more worthwhile to get a custom shop tune.
