So watching racing, and I understand it just fine (drag racing)

But looking at these rides, some dont run Water pumps or Alternator

Last i knew a water pump and alternator were crucial to keeping a motor running

(an over heated motor is a junk motor and dead electrical system is a non running motor)

Most of your drag racers are running magnetos, so they don't need an alternator, the cooling system has a special chemical that will keep them cool for the few seconds it takes to make a pass. If you will notice, there is a crewman feeling the engine block making sure it has warmed enough to make a pass.

Depends on what kind of car you are looking at. Dragsters tend to have filled blocks and are only run a short amount of time. Others have electric waterpumps that don't use drive pulleys. You don't need an alternator if you are only running the ignition or have a Magneto (makes it's own power). We used to race a 26 lap feature and at least to 10 lap heat races on just one 12 volt battery running the HEI. Charge it every week and do it again.

Darn Ninjas in here.

Not all of them run magnetos, thats like top fuel... Ive seen cars die because the batteries are dead

and no water pump is just stupid, you can get them electic so it doesnt draw on the motor, so why not do it?
save your $10k or better motor....just seems rediculous not to use them..

power steering i can see, a/c i can see but the others, just seems bad decision...

fancy coolant or not fire makes heat

I'm sure they all feel the same way, that is why they do it...

Really, what type of engine are we talking about...to many different classes to categorize them all in "one size fits all" thinking.
Nitro makes heat, the more the better.
Alcohol engines run so cool, sometimes its hard to keep them firing (cold weather)
Gasoline engines, while running longer, many times will have an electric water pump to circulate plain water, then it may get dumped and refilled in the pits between rounds.
Many of the sportsman racers run 16v batteries for that reason, and to fulfill the electronics requirements such as delay boxes, timing controls, ignition, fuel pums, etc. These items only have to function for 3-5 minute spurts, so a quick charge in the pits and they are ready for another round.

Im basicaly talking non-nitro methane race cars..

odd way to run your car, some of these are even drven on the road,

seems like an expensive waste me (going through batteries and coolant all the time)

but i guess if i was racing i wouldnt have an issue with money

This guy I know buys a stock car. Has to put a battery in it because it didnt come with one. He finishes off the season with the car (6 races, car was started 30 times at a minimum) then car sits all winter with battery still in it. Next season at after practice car cranks slow when it is time to put it on the trailer. I mentioned to him that putting it on a low amp charge over a long period would make it last longer. Later I found out he didnt even own a battery charger, and it hadnt been charged since new.

I removed the alt. from my stock car immediately, (14lbs is 14lbs) if that guy could get away with that, I would never have any problems.
