Quick stupid question... if I crack my fuel line enough that gas comes out... then direct wire my fuel pump..... gas should spray all over the place right? Not just trickle a little more....... I think its definitely my pump gone bad in my burb but wanna confirm it

Short answer, yes you should see more fuel. Whether it sprays everywhere depends on what kind of pressure you are working with. TBI and carb fuel setups run at significantly lower pressure levels than EFI. Best way to be sure is to hook up a pressure gauge and see what you are getting. I believe GM TBI has a non standard hookup that isn't always included with the gauge. If applicalble, check your fuel filter, a clogged filter can impede flow.

line going into the filter is the one I cracked. I think im boned:doah: I can see small sparks when I hook up the pump so I know it has a full circuit... but gas doesn't come out faster and I cant here ANYTHING at the pump. Man I don't wanna drop the tank again:confused:

could you disconnect the line with the pump off, let the gas thats in the line drain out. then turn the pump on and see if it begins to flow? if it does, then you know its pumping...

Thats what he is doing. And want to know if it should be doing more than dribbling.

Yes. It should be pumping a decent amount of volume.

Pump time. Get a harbor freight trans jack to help drop the tank. Its not fun, but not horrible. Hope your tank isn't full!

tank isn't full. but not empty either. I JUST did the pump like 1-2 years ago. tank didn't have to come all the way out. I just hate to do it again. I'm gonna go through receipts and see if its under warranty

Buy the delco replacement. Warranty doesn't really matter in this situation, cause its a pain, but hope it can save you a few $$$. Quality is what counts this time around!

I gotta FIND a delco one... Ive been told you can put Camaro ones or something in these as a direct swap and they will hold up to the adjustable pressure regulator better.... I plan on putting one in in someday here so while im in the tank......

yeah I don't wanna do the door thing. I have VERY little rust and that would just invite it to start... thought about it real hard though

Something i forgot to do while my tank was dropped: Install floor tie down points.

I was in a hurry, and just forgot :doah:

But while the tank is out, is a great time to install some of these. The burb doesn't have any factory tie down points until the 92+ models.

I REALLY need safe tie downs installed for my toolbox. It will kill everyone in the car if i ever roll that beast.

I think AC Delco was sold so who knows what quality the parts will be now?

Carter is another good pump. Actually better Vain drive, can be noisier...

IIRC 1990 Camaro V8 MPFI or 96-97 Chevy Vortec pump are both bolt in replacements with more volume and pressure.

When you say you're direct wiring the fuel pump can you explain how you're doing that and what color wires you're connecting so we can tell if its correct.

hooking a wire from the battery to the red pigtail coming off the fuel pump relay. I have the wiring diagram and it goes right to the pump as long as the relay isn't pulled in. I read on here that is for priming the system and such

If you wanted to eliminate any possible wiring problems from the relay to the pump you could connect the pump directly to 12v. Just unplug the harness at the fuel tank - gray wire operates the pump with 12v and the purple wire is for the sending unit. And use a good ground on the gas tank itself since it's electrically isolated due to the anti-squeak pads, don't rely on the ground strap from the tank being good. Hopefully the wire colors are the same for the 'burb as they are on my Blazer.

Yep your a moron lol, sorry Rick but you asked :D. Sounds like the pump man, that sucks I hate dropping the tank on my blazer let alone a burb. I have had good success with the Carter replacement, it is louder though.

Yeah thats what i thought.... I'm a moron:doah: :D But I'm gonna do it right this time and get one that can keep up with future upgrades.. I have to check on the carter ones but I may just do the delco for a camaro. seems cheap enough. and I've heard good things:dunno: Last time I did it wasnt horrible, just time consuming.
