Just failed emissions on my 91 Page 3 more ??

well, i just checked the egr thing thats in the pic on page 1. i see know way to put your finger in there. all i could find was metal to hit. looks like the bolts are really rusty to, so i hope its not that. how do i check the cat? thanks guys

this pic is pretty typical of an egr valve diaphram. this is just one i pulled from the web it's not for either of my trucks. the back side (side that connects to manifold) often has open areas big enough for a finger.

i still say using some e85 or racing ethanol is the easiest way to get your sticker and be done with it, then fix the problem once you run through that tank.

testing a cat can be a pain. if you just want to find if it's clogged, drill a small hole (maybe 1/4") before the cat and one after. then, run the engine and feel or gauge the pressure on each. the pressure pre-cat should be a bit higher, but if the difference is very large, you're proabably dealing with a plugged cat. you can pass that test but still have a gunked-up catalyst, though. you'll just know it's not plugged.
