Just got 69'd - My Official BUILD THREAD - UPDATED 11/23/06

I got a camera full of pics, and I can't find that stupid little USB cord with the small end that plugs into the camera so I can download the pics. I will stop by OfficeMax today and get another one.

Oh and the greatest of all excuses... "well I've been busy"

Sorry, I will get the pics posted :D

Now you should just drive your a$$ out there and look at it. I can understand everyone else wanting pics, but you, YOU can get in your vehicle and go enjoy it in all its glory, one on one, mano e trucko.

Or better yet, you go take some pics and post em for me. I still can't find that stupid little USB cord and for some reason I can't seem to find my way to Office Max...

So what this all really means, it that it is YOUR FAULT that there are not pics of MY truck post in THIS thread. Now take responsibility for your lack of action and make it happen....:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

How about instead of wheeling the CRAP out of it, you wheel it in a more skillful way so that it doesn't get all bashed to hell...??? :wink1:

With rocker protection and some decent sized tires, there are plenty of places you can go and "represent" the 1st Gen K5 and not have to necessarily destroy all your sheetmetal.

If you want to run the really severe (or narrow) trails all the time, then you might want to start with something different. My conscience would bother me too much to destroy a 1st Gen (especially a '69) by using it for that type of wheeling. In my opinion, that's what the LATER model K5s are for!!! :D There are LOTS of those (something like 800,000 built between '73 and '91)....they are cheap and nobody will care that you wreck one or hack one up.

:usaflag:

AMEN! :haha:  :haha:

Nice! - I like the back hatch straps -that is redneck ingeniuty at its finest!

I see that Jeremy still didn't come through with the pics - oh well..

So - do tell what are the plans now - (cause I can't possibly go back and read this thread again - LOL)

i was just curious, but didn't you say you were gonna do a 3/4 ton conversion on that rig? I count 8 lugs in the one picture.

Well it is 3/4 ton.... But it's IH axles. And they are so narrow that the guy built custom SPLIT RIM wheels with major offset just so that the track width would be decent.

There is a lot of redneck ingenuity on this truck.

My plan at this point is a little vague, but will come together as I sort things out.

Parts I currently have...
-D60 Dually front
-14BFF w/ disc brake conv parts
-carb'd 350
-Truck 4 spd tranny... don't know which one
-Manual tranny... the one that came in the 69, don't know what it is yet
-203 or 205 T case behind 4spd
-Divorced T case currently in 69... I think its a 203?

What I want in the end...
-Caddy 500-Truck 4 spd-203/205 doubler-D60 dually locked-14BFF dually locked w/discs-hummer wheels-38's

And in the mean time...
I am going to make what I have work and see how things go.

I will post picks of all the parts as I get them pulled.

And I am going to need advice about suspension setup.

Well - there seems to be a lot of people going 52s on the First Gens lately - that seems like a cool swap - Sky Mfg has a front cross member that one member on here used. As for the rears - shackle flip, or just soft lifted springs that'll flex.

Caddy 500 with a 4 speed & doubler, etc, etc - nice - that thing is going to be a monster!

ANDY!!!

Hey buddy, I am tearing the truck apart this week. And I expect to have the front clip off tomorrow so I will get some pics of that.

I have also decided that I am sticking to leaf springs all around. I have not decided on which springs, but that will come soon enough.

I am one of those guys that into low and wide.

So I am not interested in a lot of lift. I have these 35" Boggers now and at the most I will want to run 38's in the future.

I definatly want to go to flexy springs front and rear. I have been talking with Jeremy (55Willys) about what he is doing on his 1st Gen Sub. As soon as I get all my parts laid out and figure out the plan I will be asking for information about how much lift I need for 38's.

For My Information... What size tire will a 1st Gen fit in stock form? And does anyone have any pics of this?
