Just got my 14bff, have ???\'s about e-brake(NOT NORMAL)

I just my 14bff tonight and I was looking at the e-brake cables and the passenger side is about 35" from where it mounts to the drum to the end of the cable and the other is a little longer like 36" or 37" and my current 10b passenger side is way longer since it travels all the way across the axle to where it mounts at the fram and the driver's side is short, so how do I hook it up?? PLEASE HELP

Going through the same problem now, from what i have gathered there are 2 options:
1) Change backingplates and axle ebrake cables
2) Change entire Ebrake to old style (need all retainers, brackets and cables)

If anyone else has a suggestion, im all ears /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

I got the new style backing plates for my 14FF from a junkyard. They had them laying on the ground under their diff rack /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

How wide are your drums? For 3.5" you need to get them another 1-ton 14ff - SRW or DRW, they're the same backing plate.

If they're only 2.5", you can get them off a 3/4-ton 14FF or the 14SF - they're the same backing plate.

How about having a new set of Ebrake cables made? thats what I did, when I mated a ford D60 to my chev blazer, six states here did the work all they did was make one end the ford axle end and the other end they made chev blazer with an extra 12 inches added for the lift, as I remember they were about 40.00 each to have the custom ones made, and they work great! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

The newer 13" backing plates look like the old ones, but theres a bump with a round hole in it - just like your old 10-bolt ones.

Some have an extra lip around the outside that's spot welded on. (They changed the profile on the drums around '92 or so) But you can cut this off if you have any problems.

I built by 14FF up in advance so I'd only have 1-day downtime to install it. Besides, I had less than $150 TOTAL into this axle after the backing plates. Discs would have increased the cost, and might have meant more downtime on my DD.
