Just got my '83 Blazer 6.2L

Well, folks, my search is finally over. After looking around for months for either a CUCV or a CIVY (hah!) I found a civilian 1983 Blazer w/ the 6.2L

I got it for $1200 which I think is fair given it's condition. Things haven't rusted apart yet but the crossbrace for the rear tailgate hinges is in dire need of help... I don't dare open the rear door for fear it falling off. The rear door itself is in bad shape too but the window cranks pretty easily.

It drives well and seems very strong. I think it has about 133K miles on it. At idle it seems to lope a bit but maybe this is normal? Other diesels I've been around tend to idle faster and more steady... any ideas?

It's got the overdrive transmission and it shifts fine and predictably. Functionally everything seems to be in good shape.

Well, if anyone has any insight on that engine idle issue I'd appreciate it. Also, I know there's been a lot of discussion here about the chronic rust issues and how to take care of them. I'm noob here and introducing myself so be gentle and just point me in the right direction, I'll go read for myself before asking any more Q's.

THANKS!

As far as fixing the rust issues, either move South or West... I went West and haven't had any issues with rust since :D
