Some people may not want to respond in fear that their old lady will see…:eek1:

How much money have you dumped into your project since you owned it??

My me – have owned my project K5 for a year – dumped around 20K into thus far (including cost of the truck 3K) I track every cent for parts/labor. It’s pretty much done now – but still not a week goes by that I don’t fix/better something.... I love it.

Do I have issues :dunno: I can’t stop….. still cheaper than a boat!

How about you?

new pics from today - trying to make myself believe all the work and money was worth it....

I feel better knowing that many other people share the same sickness as I have. I sure most people here would rather throw money into their rig than other "more pressing" items...

Probably 5-6k, I'll have less than 15k in my trail rig and cummins k35 tow rig combined hopefully

nice rig....

me, I have a 86 rustbucket 'burb...I'm debating on whether or not to sell it, or build up the frame and drivetrain and swapping a nicer body on it later.

and in most cases.. whatever you "think" you may have spent is actually much more.. I'm sure most folks don't track every dime...

Total out of pocket so far including purchase price is about $1400.00 as pictured. I have a big block waiting for it that cost me another $700 (with carb and stuff).

I have a D60 and disc'd, locked 14 bolt waiting as well as a NV4500/203/205 also waiting. Seeing as I already had these parts they fall into my definition of what I have into the truck "out of pocket". They were already paid for earlier when they were in a previous truck. :D

Mine ain't pretty yet, but I am working on it. Too cold and wet here for body work though so I'll pick up where I left off in the spring.

funny thing.... my wife asked me today " what happens when you fix everything ?"

I told her...
1. that will probably never happen since I must have everything perfect.
2. If it does... I start fixing things that don't need to be fixed.

im pushin 20k currently on the k5 and now it needs an engine. im including tires and wheels, and all that junk too. the only labor i have paid for is trans overhaul 1,2 and 3.
we will see how much the engine ends up costing me. so far $1000. i bought the whole truck to get it, hydroboost and a hydro clutch.

crew cab is about $2975 so far. i figure about $12k should atleast get me close to done.

looking good man... it will add up real quick....and never end... :-)

Yeah, this is my 5th or 6th K5 now, and this one was a clean sheet of paper for me. It was rough but completely unmodified when I got it. No "Previous owner" stuff to undo.

This was my last K5, I'm pretty sure I was well over $25K into it in the 10 years I had it.

Addiction is a mild word...

I also have an '83 diesel pick-up, and an '87 Crew cab sitting here. Fortunately I have a large yard and oblivious neighbors. :waytogo:

The new 406 being built for my C20 probably puts me up to around $25k now, that includes the previous 383 though. It adds up quick. My truck isn't at all a show piece but it is in great shape and has lots of nice upgrades. I drive it daily as a work truck (tool boxes and ladder rack) but it looks better than many people's daily drivers.

Oh.....my estimate doesn't include my labor, just parts and the labor for work I chose not to do myself. The great comments I get every once in a while, regarding people liking my truck, are priceless.

This is the front end I'm gonna use on my k5.:D

There is no way to tell how much I've spent on my 2 projects since I'm to old to remember accurately.:doah:

My young beautiful wife is very understanding though:waytogo:

Originally had about $13000($2500 for truck) my 90 k5 after payin a shop n Pomona ca to due my one ton swap...after buyin another one(86)for $2200, shipping it to Louisiana from salt lake($950) then swapping everything from 90-86, new motor in 86, winch & numerous parts. I estimate about $26000 invested and it's nowhere near complete...it's expensive when u have to pay sumone($85/Hr) to wrk on ur vehicle...

I haven't added everything up yet but I figure about 10,000 give or take a thousand.. :doah: and its nowhere near finished yet.. To me its worth it though because I will have exactly what I want when I'm finished.

It will be my only vehicle (unless I get rich some day) and I use it every day. Cheaper than a brand new truck still! (so far :doah:)
