Just wanted to share some thoughts about the whole hydro-assist sstup. I've gotta start by saying that it's overall power is extremely impressive. I was amazed that I could pull up next to a curb and move my truck sideways with one finger. This should put and end to the broken steering days. I have not tried it off-road yet, but i'm sure that i'll have no problem pointing the wheels wherever I want to go. There were two things that really pissed me off about the whole thing though. #1- the hoses that come with the kit are way too short for my truck with ~8" of lift. I really expected that they would work but it's obvious they would get ripped right out as soon as the truck started drooping the front drivers side tire. #2- The pump that I bought just last year didn't work- it had no neck on it so that I could expand the reservoirs capacity. Damnit! Another fifty bucks for one that had the neck i needed. I'll post up some pics tomorrow if any body has any questions about any of it. I can't wait to give it hell this saturday at the competition in Forrestburg!

Yessir. I didn't think the hoses were that bad, they just weren't long enough. Don't you have a rocklogic kit also?

I guess I could have just looked at your sig....

Can you post more pics of your truck? I want to see what 42's will looke like. That thing is badass just from what I can see in your avatar.

I just lost all of my pics yesterday, sorry man.

How did you tap your box? Did you drill it or did you use some of the premade caps now being offered?

I spent the money on the EMS front cap and tapped the top cap. IMO, it was worth the 70 bucks not to screw up another steering box...

What happens when you replace the end cap? Do the guts come out? (I've never been brave enough to open one up). Were you happy with the EMS product? I've been thinking of buying that myself.

I didn't do it the way they recomended for fear of losing something inside. I just drilled the endcap and ran a screw into it. Vise-gripped the screw and whacked it right off. I would definately put in a good word for EMS owner (Eric?). He was more than helpful and he shipped my cap the same day just like he said he would. Just get the cap. It's worth not ruining a perfectly good box and feeling like a jackass- trust me.

The EMS cap looks fairly "tall", is there a cavity for more volume of fluid or is it all cosmetic?

Yea I originally bought the rocklogic "kit" but it came with straight fittings that go into the box and I needed 90*'s for tire clearance. The hoses were super short as you stated but what got me was the hose/fitting size. It was super small so I decided to get some hoses and fittings from WTO. MUCH better quality and the steering had alot more power.
Also the heims on the rocklogic ram are junk IMHO. I bent one so I upgraded it to a chromo one which is much beefier, hopefully the other one doesnt break but we will just have to see.
Overall the ram is a very nice piece but I wouldnt spend the extra for there "kit" ever again.

It look like it has slightly more capacity. It was suprisingly beefy and thick. Hey Mudblazin- where did you get your chromo heims at?

I'm looking to do this here in the next month or 2. Got the wife convinced it's the "main fix" for the death wobble that nearly caused her to shat herself a good 30 times this past weekend.

I didn't have the slightest shake out of it today. Tell the wifey that you know this jackass who broke his steering three times in two months because he didn't have the almighty and necessary hydro-assist. He had to be towed home with NO steering. She wouldn't want that to happen to you would she?
